Burn Victim Dies

A local woman who suffered severe burns in an accidental fire at her Budd Drive home on April 25 has died.

Maureen P. Carrigg, 59, the wife of Michael Carrigg of 6 Budd Drive, died Sunday, May 6, at Bridgeport Hospital.

Mrs Carrigg was being treated at the hospital’s burn center for second- and third-degree burns on a third of her body, which she received in a flash fire, which was fueled by an oxygen supply she was using.

Ms Carrigg received the burns on her head, arms, and torso while smoking a cigarette while using a pump-style oxygen supply while in a hospital bed, authorities have said. The fire caused minimal damage to the home.
