CHESHIRE 6, NEWTOWN 5: The Newtown Senior CONNY team lost a close decision to Cheshire 6-5. Ryan Bigham and Mike Cummings scored two goals each with Brendan OâConnor chipping in with a goal. Tyler Bigham and Tim Howland played outstanding in goal for Newtown.

NEWTOWN 13, GUILFORD 6: Mike Cummings exploded for five goals with Ryan Bigham contributing a hat trick as the Newtown Senior CONNY team upped itâs record to 3-2 with a 13-6 win over Guilford. Drew Harmata had two goals while Marc Ingerman, Alex Caruso, and Brendan Kelly each added a goal. Ingerman, Mike Cash, and Mike Conroy led the solid defensive effort in front of goaltenders Tyler Bigham and Tim Howland.

SENIOR IN-HOUSE

LOYOLO/SYRACUSE SENIORS 7, SOUTHINGTON 4: The combined senior teams of Loyola and Syracuse took on Southington and came away with a 7-4 victory. Matt Dalling led the scoring with three goals with Kevin Cuseo, Mike Jurasek, and Dan Gindraux each adding a goal and an assist. Kyle Ekstrom added a goal and Scott Whalley pitched in with an assist. Steve Giacalone broke up nine fast breaks in front of goaltender Brandon Thomas, who stopped 22 shots.

TRUMBULL 14, UMASS/DUKE SENIORS 8: The combined senior teams of UMass and Duke lost a tough game to Trumbull. Matt Dalling led the scoring with five goals and an assist with Dan Gindraux adding three goals and an assist.

WATERTOWN 8, LOYOLA/SYRACUSE 5: The Loyola/Syracuse Seniors kept the game close but came up short against Watertown, 8-5. Ryan Tansey led the offense with three goals and an assist with Matt Dalling and Kyle Ekstrom scoring a goal each. Scott Whalley, Ben Krinke, and Pat Keating each recorded assists. Blaise LaPorta, Matt Fisher, and Sean LaPorta anchored the defense in front of goaltenders Josh Tanenbaum and Tyler Law who combined to make 14 saves.

JUNIOR IN-HOUSE

TRUMBULL 11, NEWTOWN 2: Newtown played a tough Trumbull squad and dropped a hard-fought decision. Brian Kirk scored on a cross crease assist from Kyle Shevlin and Shawn Kirk scored on an unassisted crank shot from long range to complete the scoring for Newtown. Scott Shannon and Shawn Kirk split goaltender duties and stopped a combined 12 shots. Peter Leone, Blake Bell, and Eric Dreher had solid games at midfield while Bill Romaniello and Alex Hamilton led the longsticks.

The voters certainly spoke — and I respect the outcome — but let’s not forget that a “majority” doesn’t mean everyone agreed. Many of us are deeply concerned about the rising cost of living here. Supporting schools and services is important, but so is ensuring that residents can afford to stay in the town they love. We all want Newtown to be a great place to live, but lately, it’s starting to feel less like “Nicer in Newtown” and more like “More Expensive in Newtown.” That’s not sustainable, and it’s not a criticism of the town itself — it’s a call for responsible budgeting and long-term planning that doesn’t rely on tax increases year after year. I hope future decisions will reflect not just the desire to maintain services, but also the need to ease the financial burden on residents.

Budget, Capital Projects Pass: Officials Respond

I appreciate the passion behind this message, and I absolutely understand the desire to invest in our town. That said, I voted no — not because I don't care about Newtown, but because I do. Fiscal responsibility is not about ignoring problems, it’s about making sure we address them in a sustainable and transparent way. It’s frustrating to feel like every year there’s a new “urgent” reason to raise taxes, with little serious effort to curb spending or prioritize needs. I worry this just sets the stage for another round of increases next year. That doesn't mean I’m against education, safety, or our town’s future — it means I believe in accountability and in asking tough questions about how our money is managed. Voting no wasn't a rejection of Newtown — it was a call for more thoughtful, balanced leadership. I hope future conversations can include all perspectives, not just those willing to write a bigger check.

The voters spoke, loud and clear that they support our schools and municipal services. The majority vote was a mandate to keep delivering well rated education services and keep it" Nicer in Newtown."

Thank you LeReine, for speaking out about this. The list of public servants who are unfairly targeted for abuse just for doing their jobs has been growing. It is a testament to the power of propaganda that otherwise good and well-meaning people can get so emotional as to act out in this way.
