GBYO Will Recognize Newtown Musicians
BRIDGEPORT â Newtown High School seniors Christopher Benson, Geoff DeBeneditto and John Pantan will among those be honored when the four orchestras of the Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestras present the final concert of their 40th anniversary season this month.
A concert will be performed at Bridgeport High School, 1 Lincoln Boulevard, on Sunday, May 20, at 3 pm.
Principal Orchestra flutist Jennifer of Stratford, the winner of the GBYSO annual concerto competition, will be the featured soloist. Miss Lewellyn will perform Fantasie Pastorale Hongroise by Albert Franz Doppler.
The program will also include pieces by Mendelssohn, Brahms, Verdi and Shostakovich. Nineteen graduating members of the GBYO will be recognized for their contribution to the orchestra. The GBYOâs 200-plus members represent 26 Connecticut communities. The members, in grades 5 through 12, are selected by competitive auditions in late August/early September.
