Helping On

The Homefront

To the Editor:

On Saturday, May 3, over 54 volunteers gathered at the St Rose Parking lot to participate in the annual AmeriCares HomeFront, a program utilizing donated materials by AmeriCares to help restore a home in a single day’s effort. In addition to volunteers from Newtown, we had 26 volunteers from the Ridgefield National Charity League (Nutmeg Chapter) along with several people from Danbury. This enabled us to expand the traditional program to include seven additional projects in our town. These supplemental projects included painting, cleaning, insulating, some demolition, and also floor repair for the elderly and widows in our community. God gave us great weather and lots of volunteers and we certainly took advantage of the situation.

On behalf of the Knights of Columbus, Virgilius Council #185, we would like to express our gratitude for all those who participated in Saturday’s activities. We would also like to acknowledge our contractors (Goulart Construction, Martin Siding, Nitopi Engineering, Michael Meehan Ceramic Tile) for donating their time. Special thanks to our Ridgefield and Danbury volunteers, Father Bob Weiss for his constant support, Bagelman for our food and the generous donations from Newtown Color and Newtown Hardware.  Finally, we are extremely grateful to AmeriCares for providing all the materials to make this day a tremendous success.

Participation in the Knights of Columbus ... at our Gate program is just like riding a train. Hop onboard with us and enjoy the ride.

Sincerely,

John McNulty
