Rallying To Protect Newtown
Rallying To Protect Newtown
To the Editor:
We would like to thank everyone who attended Thursdayâs public hearing before the Connecticut Siting Council to protest the cell tower planned for Walnut Tree Hill Road. It truly restores oneâs faith in mankind to see how people rally around to defend the beauty and quality of life of Newtown â and most importantly speak out to protect our right to decide our own fate!
Many thanks to First Selectman Herb Rosenthal, who forcefully expressed the townâs position against cell towers in residential neighborhoods and who was instrumental in steering the telecom carrier to alternate industrial locations. Thanks also to State Representative Julia Wasserman, our wonderful neighbors at Walnut Tree Village, the Newtown Residential Preservation Society, and many others who took time from their busy schedules to show their support. And of course thanks to our caring shopkeepers who put up with our endless petitions and posters.
The battle is not over yet. There is still a window of opportunity to tell the siting council that this tower belongs on one of the alternate industrial sites. For those of you who would like your voice heard on this matter, please send your comments to: Pamela B. Katz, Chairman, RE: Docket No 241/Newtown, Connecticut Siting Council, Ten Franklin Square, New Britain, CT 06051.
Thanks again!
