Summer School 2001 – First Session At UConn – Torrington

UConn’s summer session course offerings will be extensive this year. During the first session, which runs May 21 to June 29, 21 courses including traditional freshman-sophomore UConn requirements, as well as upper division social sciences and literature, will be available.

The following courses will be offered:

* Accounting 131 – “Principles of Financial Accounting” will be taught by Debra Kenneson on Monday and Wednesday, 6 to 9:30 pm.

* Anthropology 281 – “Sex and Gender” will be taught by Alan Trevithick on Monday and Wednesday, 6 to 9:30 pm.

* Art 135 – “Art Appreciation” will be taught by Pam Bramble on Tuesday and Thursday, 6 to 9:30 pm.

* Chemistry 127Q – “General Chemistry” will be taught by Isaac Hon on Monday and Wednesday, 6 to 9:30 pm with a lab taught by Beth Storey on Tuesday and Thursday, 6 to 9:15 pm.

* Communication Sciences 226 – “Gender and Communication” will be taught by Terry Finello on Tuesday and Thursday, 6 to 9:30 pm.

* Economics 230 – “Money and Banking” will be taught by Merle Knight on Monday and Wednesday, 6 to 9:30 pm.

* English 127/127W – “Major Works of English and American Literature” will be taught by Davyne Verstandig on Monday and Wednesday, 6 to 9:30 pm. Davyne Verstandig will also be teaching English 146 – “Creative Writing I” on Tuesday and Thursday, 6 to 9:30 pm.

* History 100 – “The Roots of the Western Experience” will be taught by John O’Brien on Tuesday and Thursday, 6 to 9:30 pm.

* History 232/232W – “American History Since 1877: A Survey” will be taught by Karl Valois on Tuesday and Thursday, 6 to 9:30 pm.

* Human Development and Family Studies 248/248W – “Aging in American Society” will be taught by John Mauceri on Monday and Wednesday, 6 to 9:30 pm.

* Human Development and Family Studies 287/287W – “Parenthood” will be taught by Carolyn Scholz on Monday and Wednesday, 6 to 9:30 pm.

* Marketing 201 – “Introduction to Marketing Management” will be taught by Greg Sottile on Tuesday and Thursday, 6 to 9:30 pm.

* Mathematics 109Q – “Algebra and Trigonometry” will be taught by Janice Grella on Monday and Wednesday, 6 to 9:30 pm.

* Mathematics 115Q – “Calculus I” will be taught by Terrence Tirrell on Tuesday, Wednesday, 6 to 9 pm, and Thursday, 6 to 8:40 pm.

* Molecular and Cell Biology 200 – “Human Genetics” will be taught by Melissa Durstin on Tuesday and Thursday, 6 to 9:30 pm.

* Philosophy 104 – “Philosophy and Social Ethics” will be taught by Gordon Stevenson on Tuesday and Thursday, 6 to 9:30 pm.

* Physics 115Q – “Introductory Astronomy” will be taught by Gershom Foster on Tuesday and Thursday, 6 to 9:30 pm.

* Science 240 – “The Nature of Scientific Thought” will be taught by Gordon Stevenson on Monday and Wednesday, 6 to 9:30 pm.

* Sociology 244/244W – “Sociology of Mental Illness” will be taught by Peter Mendelson on Monday and Wednesday, 6 to 9:30 pm.

* Statistics 110V – “Elementary Concepts of Statistics” will be taught by Ruth Keefe on Monday and Wednesday, 6 to 9:15 pm, and Tuesday, 6 to 8:25 pm.

All three credit classes offered in the evening meet twice each week between 6 and 9:30 pm. Calculus and Statistics, which are four credits each, meet three nights a week; Chemistry meets four evenings a week. Registration for all of the courses listed above is taking place at the Torrington Campus on University Drive now. The cost per credit is approximately $175 plus registration fees (check with Registrar at 860-628-6805). The deadline for registering without a late fee is Friday, May 11.
