Edmond Town Hall

Police report a two-car accident in front of Edmond Town Hall about 9 am May 10.

Police said motorist Joseph Saxe, 50, of North Branford, was driving a 2000 Saturn SL-2 northbound on Main Street and turned left to enter the town hall parking area, crossing the path of southbound motorist Karen Winkenwerder, 32, of 2 Taunton Lane, who was driving a 2001 Hyundai Elantra, resulting in a collision.

There were no injuries. Police issued Saxe an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.

Route 34 Crash

Police report that motorist Roxanne Silvey, 45, of Bethel, was driving a Ford sport-utility vehicle eastbound on Route 34 near High Rock Road in Sandy Hook about 1:30 am May 11, when she fell asleep at the wheel, crossed into the westbound lane, and struck guardrailing.

Silvey was not injured, police said. Police issued her an infraction on a charge of failure to drive to the right.

Three Violations

Police said they issued motorist Emmanuel O. Akinjobi, 50, of Providence, R.I., three motor vehicle violations about 5:30 pm May 10.

Police said they received a call informing them that a Toyota Camry was being driven erratically, after which they stopped the Toyota on Main Street and investigated. Police charged Akinjobi with misuse of marker plates, operating a motor vehicle without a license, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. Akinjobi posted a $250 bond and was released for a May 24 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

Hawleyville Theft

Police report a case of theft and vandalism at a new residential subdivision under construction in Hawleyville.

Police said that sometime between 4 pm on May 5 and 7 am on May 7, someone stole an air compressor and three nail guns from a locked trailer on Lot 11 on North Ridge Road. That road is in the Newtown Hunt subdivision now being built off Hawleyville Road by Toll Brothers, Inc.

 Police said the crime constitutes third-degree larceny and third-degree criminal mischief. Third-degree larceny involves the theft of between $1,000 and $5,000 in goods.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact them at the police station at 426-5841.

Route 34 DUI

Police said they received a report about 9 pm May 12 that a motorist was driving a white 1972 Pontiac Firebird erratically on Route 34.

Police said they went to the area and stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Route 34 and Zoar Road.

After investigating, police charged motorist John W. Anderson, 30, of Bethlehem with driving under the influence, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, and failure to drive to the right.

After processing, police released Anderson on a $250 bond for a May 25 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

I-84 DUI

State police said they found that motorist Jason C. Laliberte, 19, of Wolcott had fallen asleep in a vehicle at the base of a highway ramp at Exit 9 on eastbound Interstate 84 about 12:20 am May 12.

State police said that after investigating, they charged Laliberte with driving under the influence. After processing, state police released him on bond for a May 21 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Interstate Collision

State police report a two-car accident on westbound Interstate 84 near Exit 11 about 2:30 am May 13.

State police said motorist Lucille Greiner, 72, of Newburgh, N.Y., was driving a 1999 Ford sedan in the road’s center lane, while motorist Samara S. Boanno, 24, of Ansonia was driving a 1997 Jeep in the left lane, before the two vehicles collided. There was minor damage, state police said. There were no injuries or enforcement actions taken.

I-84 Rear Ender

State police report that motorist David Bunting, 30, of Danbury, who was driving a 2001 Ford station wagon on eastbound Interstate 84 near Exit 9 about 4 pm May 11, stopped the Ford for heavy traffic and was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Paul Konew, 67, of New York City, who was driving a 1999 Lexus sedan.

There were no injuries. State police charged Konew with following too closely.

Warrant

Police served a warrant against a Vermont man May 16 in connection with an incident which occurred in September 1996.

Police said they served the warrant against Jeremy J. Ewasko, 27, of Montpelier, Vermont, listing charges of second-degree failure to appear in court, driving under the influence, and failure to drive to the right.

Police said the charges stem from a September 18, 1996, incident in which they stopped Ewasko, who was then 22, after observing him driving erratically on South Main Street.

Ewasko was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

 

High School Incident

Police report that at about 12:30 pm May 16, Eric DesBiens, 18, of Brookfield, allegedly intentionally falsely pulled a fire alarm at Newtown High School.

The school was evacuated and firefighters went to the scene.

Police charged DesBiens with fourth-degree criminal mischief in connection with the incident. He is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court May 30 to answer the charge.

Middle School Marijuana

Police said they charged an 11-year-old male student at Newtown Middle School May 16 with illegal possession of less than four ounces of marijuana for allegedly having a small amount of the substance.

The youth will be referred to juvenile authorities.
