20th Century Southbury Farmer's Life Portrayed In Photography Exhibit
20th Century Southbury Farmerâs Life Portrayed In Photography Exhibit
SOUTHBURY â An extensive black and white retrospective of photographs taken over a 16-year period by former Southbury photographer Georgia Sheron is currently inaugurating the art gallery at the new Southbury Public Library and will continue through June 30.
A reception to meet the photographer will be held on Saturday, June 3, from 4 to 6 pm.
The images in the exhibit are a glimpse into the life of John Ludorf, a Southbury farmer who passed away in 1996, eight months shy of his 100th birthday. The photographs depict his life, that of a true Yankee farmer who worked a large farm alone, using many 19th Century tools, equipment and farming methods.
Many of the images have never been shown by Ms Sheron before and portray a way of life that rarely exists in Connecticut anymore. The photo documentary reveals one manâs struggle and joy in making a difficult living from land he was born on.
The exhibit may be viewed during regular library hours.
Southbury Public Library is at 100 Poverty Road. For more information, call the library at 262-0626.
