Canine Advocates’ Tag Sale Most Successful Yet

To the Editor:

Two recent special events have given a boost to the Canine Advocates of Newtown, Inc fundraising drive for a new pound for Newtown.

The 2006 Canine Advocates Annual Tag Sale was the most successful yet. The members want to thank all those who made such good quality donations, and all those who came to shop — there was never a lull. It seems the word is out, this is a tag sale not to be missed! All the money raised will benefit Canine Advocates’ Building Fund.

We also want to thank everyone who loaned us tables, especially Newtown United Methodist Church, Bob DuBois, and Ken Dell, allowing us to display items to their best advantage. Thanks also to Anthony Mason for loaning us a huge dumpster which helped make cleanup easier. Special thanks go to Jeanne Young and Pat Antolini, who co-chaired the event, and to the many volunteers who gave their time and their backs. Of course, we could never have such a fantastic tag sale without the co-operation and generosity of Dr Donald Evans, who year after year allows us to hold our event in such a prime location. Leftover items were donated to a day care center in Danbury and other appropriate charities.

In addition, Canine Advocates thanks the Newtown Lions for donating the proceeds of their delicious and fun-filled Pancake Breakfast to the Building Fund. The co-chairs, David Smith, Ray Keegan, and Steve Bennett, were a pleasure to work with, as were all of the Lions who donated their Saturday morning to ticket selling, cooking, serving, and cleaning up. The Leos, a volunteer group of high school students, were also a great help bringing in the crowd and helping to serve. It was a very enjoyable morning, highlighted by the appearances of many Newtown Pound alumni and their new families. There were smiles everywhere.

It is wonderful to see so many groups committed to helping to bring the dream of a state-of-the-art shelter for Newtown to fruition. Thank you, everyone.
