Show Awards

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown presented its 36th Annual Spring Art Show at C.H. Booth Library recently. The show, which ran April 30 to May 7, was chaired by Marija Pavlovich McCarthy and offered visitors their choice of 149 works in oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, mixed media, graphics and sculpture.

The jury of selection and awards was made up of Patricia Billeci, Ellie Bender and Roger Kastel, who presented the following awards to this year’s participating artists:

The Larry Newquist Award for Excellence (Best in Show), accompanied by a $300 cash prize, went to Carolyn S. Battaglia for her watercolor “Evening in Casablanca”;

The Lois Zimmermann Memorial Award ($250), to Mireille Duchesne for “A Slice of Watermelon,” an oil painting;

The Ida Van Tassell Memorial Award ($150), to Ruth Newquist for “Uptown,” a mixed media piece;

The Bee Publishing Company Award ($150) to Richard Kaminskas for “Zofia” (or “Zofta”), graphics;

The Newtown Savings Bank Award ($150) to Lorraine Ryan for her watercolor “Monhegan Sentinel”;

The Taunton Press Award ($150) to Marianne C. Imhoff for “Winter Sunset,” a pastel;

The Anthony E. Wallace Sr Award ($100) to Mario Ambrosio for “Autumn Harvest II,” an oil;

The Savings Bank of Danbury Award to Richard Yerrington “Woodbury Walk,” an oil painting;

The Society of Creative Arts Award ($100 each) to Lorraine Skelsky Chapin for “Head of Meadow Truto, Cape,” an oil painting; Pamela Reese for “Through the Onion Field,” an oil painting; Lee Brownell for “Big Wheels,” also an oil; and Julie Hopkins for “Lyman Orchard Trees,” a pastel; and

The Barn Gallery Award ($50 gift certificate) to Marilyn Ventresca DiChiara for “Vintage on Display,” a graphics work.
