Students Invited To Annual Home School Day At Glebe House Museum

WOODBURY — The Glebe House Museum & Gertrude Jekyll Garden will hold its fourth annual Home School Day on Wednesday, June 7, with a rain date of Thursday, June 8.  Home schooled children ages 5-17 from across the state are invited to attend.

This hands-on learning experience will begin at 9:30 am and will last approximately 2½ hours.

The program for students ages 5-11 will include a tour of the 18th Century house museum and a scavenger hunt designed to teach them about the daily lives of the family who lived and worked there during Colonial days. The children will practice quill writing, make horn books, learn and play colonial games, and enjoy stories and legends of Old Woodbury as told by storyteller Joyce Marie Rayno.

Children ages 12-17 will take a walking tour of Hollow Road that will include a discussion about the evolution of this historic street, a visit to a privately owned home, a guided tour and directed activity in the Old Burying Grounds, and an in-depth tour of The Glebe House.

The museum is at 49 Hollow Road, adjacent to Hollow Park. A picnic will be held in the park following the program. The cost per child is $6 for the program. One adult per household is free; each additional adult is $6.

To register, send a check made out to The Glebe House Museum along with the names and ages of the children attending to Carol Hackett, 1 Lakeview Road, Woodbury CT 06798.

Deadline for registration is May 24.

The Glebe House Museum & Gertrude Jekyll Garden is one of Woodbury’s most important historic sites. The museum encourages public and private schools to visit, and offers specially designed tours and programs for all age groups as well as week-long summer camps for children.
