Finding A Place On The Gun Issue
To The Editor:
I have been sitting on the sidelines since 12/14 trying to figure out where my place is regarding the gun issue. On May 8th I attended a meeting for Moms Demand Action which is working in partnership with Mayors Against Illegal Guns under the umbrella of Everytown. Moms Demand Action is a grassroots organization looking to bring common sense solutions to the gun debate. As I looked around the room at all these moms I thought we could be at a Pampered Chef party or a jewelry party but what we were attending is what I pray will someday be the best party and that is that we will be able to bring people together to limit the violence that is caused each and every day by guns.
The NRA continues to create hysteria and paranoia with their talk that organizations such as this are attempting to take away peoples' guns, but that's not the case. We are just looking to keep us from destroying each other.
I'm a member of the Congregational Church, and when we have a baptism we are all asked to stand and vow that we will support our newest church member.
That's impossible to do when you're sitting on the sidelines.
