The Newtown Middle School softball team - after starting the season slowly - really got on a roll this past week with victories over Broadview Middle School (23-0), Rochambeau (14-3) and Jockey Hollow (18-0). The Lady Lions’ winning streak stands at five games.

In the win over Rochambeau, Megan LaFlamme had three singles to lead a 14-hit attack. The Lady Lions took advantage nine bases on balls (one a hit batsmen) to ease past Rochambeau. Sarah Holroyd, Emily Blewett and Christina Wolf had two singles apiece while Christie Caruso, Ashley Ferris, Lisa Morgan, Lauren Cascia, and Emily Nezvesky all collected hits.

Morgan whiffed 14 batters in the win.

In the win over Broadview, Morgan, Blewett and Grills all homered to fuel a 25-hit attack. Valerie Nezvesky and Bria Innurato had three singles each while Blewett, Courtney Brunton (double), Caruso (double), Wolf, Ferris, and Jenna Van Waalwijk had two hits apiece.

Everyone who got in the game got a hit.

Van Waalwijk and Kayla Koschel shared the pitching duties.

In the win over Jockey Hollow, Cascia had a pair of singles and a double, Caitlin Thursland had three hits and Megan LaFlamme had a single and a homer to fuel a 15-hit attack. Valerie Nezvesky had a pair of singles and Jessica Duch doubled to also help power the offense. Blewett, Ferris, Morgan, and Van Waalwijk also collected hits.

Morgan earned the shutout and whiffed 15 batters along the way. Morgan, in fact, struck out the first seven batters she faced before allowing a single. She allowed just three hits the rest of the way and fanned the final batter to record the shutout.
