Junior Gold 8, RELax 5: Quinn Karp and Dori Farley combined for six saves splitting time in the goal, while the defense in front led by Chloe Amonte, Brittany Meisenheimer, and Celia Gold did a great job of limiting opportunities for the opponents. Charlotte Stenz led the team in ground balls with four and Maddy Bridges led the team in assists with three. Goals were scored by Julia Wiberg, Nikki Zaccaro, Juliana Patelli, Dori Farley, Lindsay Hoyt, and Maddy Bridges
Junior Blue 12, Wakeman 10: Casey Harkins had seven saves in goal with tremendous help on defense by Jillian DiMartino and Caroline âNoochâ Caporale. The Frascatore sisters, Nicole and Sarah, played aggressive attack with Madison Ventresca scooping up three ground balls. Olivia Holman made an assist on a goal. Other goals were scored by Katie Capelli, Brianna Sclafani, Caporale, Claudia Morris and Katie Mossbarger.
Junior Blue 8, New Fairfield 6th Grade 11: Liz Cain and Julia Sughrue combined for six saves in goal. Lyllie McBride and Peyton Cutolo scooped three ground balls a piece. Goals were scored by Mossbarger, Sclafani, Morris, Lauren Zimmerman, Alana OâDonnell, and Hannah Bellagamba. Assists were made by Cam Morris, Sarah OâRourke, Capelli, Meghan Doyle, and DiMartino.
Boys
The Junior In-House Boys Team hosted two games back to back last week. In their first game against Bethel on Thursday, May 6, the boys pulled off the win, beating Bethel Travel C in closely matched game 7-3. The boys all played solidly while both on offense and defense. Scoring for Newtown were Aaron Becket and Dave Corsi with two goals each, and David Anderson, Shawn McCarthy, and Wiley Zahansky with one goal each. Corsi also led the team scooping up eight ground balls with a close second for Kaj Djonne with six ground balls. The defensive players of Chris Hartley, Kyle Mangold, and Tom Rahr solidly controlled the ball giving Bethel few opportunities to shoot. Owen Gray had a great night in the goal making seven saves.
In their second game on Friday, May 7, the boys hosted New Fairfield Travel C under the lights at Treadwell Park. In another closely matched game, the boys again in were able to pull off the win 3-0. Gray in goal was supported by the defensive players of Hartley, Mangold, and Rahr, who solidly controlled the ball, giving New Fairfield few opportunities to shoot. Gray had an excellent night in goal, making 11 saves and shutting out the New Fairfield offense. Djonne led the team in scooping up nine ground balls with Hartley scooping another eight. While on offense the boys moved the ball well and controlled the pace of the game. Scoring one goal each for Newtown was Hartley, Dominic Pagliaro, and Zahansky.
