Fire Truck Accident
A town-owned fire truck used by the Botsford Fire Rescue Company, Inc, and a passenger vehicle were involved in an accident midday on May 8 at the intersection of South Main Street, Botsford Hill Road, and Meadowbrook Road, police said. The fire truck was not on an emergency call, police said.
The collision involved Botsford Fire Chief Wayne Ciaccia, 55, of 33 Swamp Road, who was driving a 2005 Pierce Saber fire pumper truck, and motorist Michael Easter, 31, of 57 Turkey Hill Road, who was driving a 2004 Honda Civic sedan, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said the accident is under investigation.
Interstate Crash
State police said that motorist Kyle Zalaski, 29, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2013 Ford E-250 van westward on Interstate 84 just east of the Exit 9 interchange at about 7 am on May 7, struck the rear end of a 2003 Toyota Celica driven by Julio Luna-Capon, 31, of Danbury.
There were no injuries. State police said they issued Zalaski a written warning for following too closely.
Into The Rails
At about 7:17 am on May 6, motorist Melissa Carriero, 23, of Danbury was driving a 2006 Saturn Vue SUV on the Exit 11 on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84, when she lost control of the vehicle and struck some guardrailing along the left road shoulder, state police said.
Carriero refused medical attention, state police said. Enforcement information was not available.
Narcotics
Police said they responded to 30 Brookwood Drive about 3 pm on May 10 after receiving a report that some narcotics had been found there.
Police said that after investigating, they charged Matthew Frost, 19, of 30 Brookwood Drive with illegal possession of narcotics. Police said they held Frost on $500 bail for a May 11 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.
Frost pleaded not guilty to the felony at his arraignment. On May 12, he was being held on $7,500 bail at the Bridgeport Correctional Center for a May 18 court appearance.
Rear-Ender
Police report a two-vehicle collision at an intersection of South Main Street and Pecks Lane about 4:52 pm on May 2.
Both vehicles were southbound on South Main Street, when the accident occurred, police said. In the incident, motorist Eric Riddle, 25, of 21 Lyrical Lane, who was driving a 2000 Jeep Wrangler SUV, drove into the rear end of a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder SUV driven by Kathy Guzman, 33, of Stratford, police said.
The Nissan carried four passengers. Police said the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported one of those passengers to Danbury Hospital for medical care. Police said they issued Riddle an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Warrant
After learning that the Derby Police Department held a pending arrest warrant, at about 9:30 am on May 7, Adrian Stock, 43, of East Haven went to the Newtown police station to surrender, police said.
Police charged Stock with second-degree failure to appear in court in connection with a past incident in Derby. After processing, police released Stock on $500 bail for a May 21 appearance in Derby Superior Court.
South Main Crash
Police said motorist Herlof Sorensen, 51, of 160 Boggs Hill Road, who was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck southward near 87 South Main Street at about 9:44 am on May 11, stopped for traffic conditions, and was then struck from behind by southbound motorist Jennifer Ballard, 42, of 9 Whippoorwill Hill Road, who was driving a 2008 Toyota Sienna minivan.
There were no injuries. Ballard received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.
Berkshire Road
Police said motorist Ernesto Leon-Gambetta, 54, of 18 Saw Mill Ridge Road, who was driving a 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan at about 12:12 pm on May 12, was in the right-turn-only lane on southbound Berkshire Road, just north of its intersection with Wasserman Way.
At that time, motorist Michael DeHoyos, Jr, 30, of New Milford, who was driving a 2015 Ford Escape SUV, was in the adjacent straight-ahead-only lane on southbound Berkshire Road, police said.
The Mercedes then attempted to make a left turn to enter a commercial driveway, but it collided with the Ford, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Leon-Gambetta an infraction for making a restricted turn.
DUI Incident
Police report that at about 11:16 pm on May 8, they stopped motorist Brian Koehler, 28, of Brookfield on Currituck Road, near its intersection with Frontage Road, to investigate.
Police said their investigation led them to charge Koehler with driving under the influence and with failure to keep to the right.
After processing, police released him on $250 bail for a May 20 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
