BPW Installs New Slate, Presents Awards

The Business and Professional Womenâs Club of Newtown had a busy agenda during its May 7 dinner meeting at The Inn at Newtown. It held an installation ceremony for its new slate of officers, named its Young Careerist, and awarded three scholarships.
Elaine Hendrickson was the installing officer for the installation flower ceremony.
The officers for 2001-2002 are: Laura Mayer and Ann LoBosco, co-presidents; Debbie Delvecchio, first vice president; Lisa Chaloux, and Christina Maturi, second vice presidents; Doreen Kelleher, recording secretary; Nadine Thompson, corresponding secretary; Monica Pitruzzello, treasurer; and Shelley Kappauf, assistant treasurer.
Jean Leonard was named as the clubâs Young Careerist for 2001. She has been a financial advisor for American Express since 1995 and was previously employed in accounting and finance with Hay Day Inc.
Ms Leonard received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Southern Connecticut State University and a masterâs in business administration in finance/international business from Sacred Heart University.
Receiving scholarship awards were Lisa LeBlanc, Dawn M. Tierno, and Dawn Lynn Adams.
Ms LeBlanc has decided to pursue a career in elementary education. She is currently attending Western Connecticut State University but will switch to the IDEAL program at the University of Bridgeport.
Ms Tierno is attending the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy, where she is studying to become a licensed massage therapist. She is due to graduate in August and hopes to open a practice in Newtown.
Ms Adams is enrolled in the radiology technician program at Naugatuck Valley Community & Technical College. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Central Connecticut State University.
