DANBURY — The popular comic operetta Die Fledermaus by Johann Stauss, Jr will be presented by Danbury Opera Company, an affiliate of Connecticut Opera Alliance, in a concert version with orchestra, on Sunday, June 3, at 3 pm. The show will be in WCSU’s Ives Concert Hall, in White Hall at 181 White Street.

The free production will be performed in German in a semi-staged version, without sets, utilizing an English commentary to explain the complicated plot.

Joan Brainerd Noland is artistic director and James Humphreville is conductor.

The goal of Danbury Opera is to give young singers the opportunity to perform with more experienced singers and to provide audiences the opportunity to enjoy these performances on the local level. Ms Noland has been bringing grassroots opera to the area for over 40 years. After a professional career, she turned to teaching and coaching area students.

Mr Humphreville has been musically active in Danbury for 47 years, having served as conductor of Danbury Symphony and Danbury Concert Chorus, and also as supervisor of music for Danbury public schools.

The cast includes Evelyn Thatcher, Rebecca Hicks, James Noland, Gabriel Perez, Juan Ibarra, and Hayden De Witt who is also the author of the narration. Orchestra members, singers and directors are generously donating their services.

Admission is free. There will be a dessert table following the performance. The performance is sponsored by Danbury Cultural Commission, The News Times and area supporters of the arts. For further information contact, James Humphreville at 743-2330 or Joan Noland at 203-938-3930.
