Graduate School Scholarships Available
State Representative Pat Shea, R-112th District, today announced that scholarships are available for persons entering graduate school for the first time in the fall of 2001 and who are seeking advanced degrees in political science, public administration, public policy, or a related field.
Sprint Corporation, in coordination with the Womenâs Network of the National Conference of State Legislatures, is providing the scholarship funds. Four scholarships of $2,500 each will be awarded. Several factors will be taken into account in awarding the scholarships, including scholastic achievements, written statements by applicants, community/school involvement, and letters of recommendation.
Applications and supporting documentation are due no later than June 29, 2001, and are available from Sprint at 800-796-3464.
âThe Sprint and NCSL Womenâs Network graduate scholarships are a great opportunity for anyone entering graduate school. Embarking on a course of graduate study represents a major commitment of time and money,â Rep Shea said. âThese scholarships will help ensure that the cost of attending graduate school does not deter qualified students from trying to earn advanced degrees.â
Rep Shea is a member of the National Conference of State Legislaturesâ Womenâs Network, which is coordinating the scholarship awards with Sprint. Rep Sheaâs district includes Monroe and part of Newtown. She is the House Ranking Member on the General Assemblyâs Human Services Committee. She also serves on the Transportation and Education committees.
