Dedication To The Community

To the Editor:

Last week our men and woman of the Newtown Police Department agreed to a zero percent wage increase for this coming fiscal year by ratifying a new three-year labor agreement with the town. Realizing the current economic climate, the police union stepped up and made a critical concession. The continuous high level of service that our police department provides to our community needs to be recognized now more than ever by our citizens.

It comes as no great surprise to me that these employees who have chosen a career of public service have agreed to not receive a wage increase this upcoming fiscal year. These are a group of highly dedicated men and woman who have always been willing to put the needs of their community ahead of their own, by providing us with quality police services 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.

I just wanted to publicly thank the men and woman of the Newtown Police Department who protect and serve us everyday. I hope that the next time you have contact with a member of our police department that you will take a moment to thank them for what they willingly do for us everyday, something that most of us would never even consider doing for a living.

Lets also remember all the town employees who have agreed to not take a wage hike this year when it comes time to initiate new labor contracts in the next coming years when our economy recovers.

Sincerely,

Brian Budd
