John Joseph Reilly

Former Newtown Police

Officer And NVAC Volunteer

John Joseph Reilly, 46, of Southbury, died unexpectedly, May 11, at Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Suzanne Reilly. Mr Reilly was born February 8, 1963, in Bridgeport, the son of Doris Reilly of Southbury and the late Victor M. Reilly.

Formerly of Newtown, he was a graduate of Newtown High School, and served as a Newtown police officer for many years. He was a volunteer firefighter for Botsford Fire Rescue Company and a volunteer EMT for Newtown Ambulance Association.

He was a co-owner of Leo’s Family Restaurants. He was currently a self-employed building contractor, known as Reilly’s Remodeling.

He enjoyed flying, and working on cars, ATVs, and motorcycles. He was devoted to his family and a loyal friend.

Besides his wife and mother, Mr Reilly leaves two children; two brothers, including Patrick Reilly of Newtown; and many other relatives.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10 am, Friday, May 15, in Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South, Southbury. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Southbury. Calling hours were scheduled for Thursday, May 14, from 6 to 9 pm, at Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Reilly Children’s Fund, c/o Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury CT 06488.
