Where’s The Transparency?

To the Editor:

Transparency in Government! That has been the outcry from many Newtowners. Interestingly enough the group that started that outcry are avid education supporters.

Where is it now? The Board of Finance and Legislative Council had their budget deliberations televised. The Board of Education should be doing the same thing. Their agenda said they were addressing the budget and deciding on a bus company. Did they think the public wasn’t interested it that? Why can’t they have their meetings in the lecture hall at the high school so the meetings can be seen by all? Do they have a problem with transparency?

Obviously, MTM doesn’t have a problem with transparency. They have been at every meeting with an attorney and their accountant. Where was All-Star? Dr Robinson was speaking for them. How transparent is that?

The Board of Education administers two-thirds of our tax dollars and are free to shuffle around line items. I for one would like to keep an eye on where my tax dollars are going and keep them in Newtown. I vote for MTM Transportation.
