The Medical Benefits Of Bee Venom
The Medical Benefits Of Bee Venom
WESTON â The Back Yard Beekeepersâ Association is hosting a presentation, âMedicine from the Hive,â by Walter Blohm, vice president of the American Apitherapy Society, Tuesday, May 22, at 7:30 pm, in the community room of Norfield Church. The program is open to the public and there is no charge.
The presentation will cover the medical benefits of apitherapy â using bee venom to treat various medical conditions, such as multiple sclerosis and arthritis. Additionally, Mr Blohm will cover the medicinal uses of bee products including royal jelly (the substance fed to the developing queen bee), honey, propolis, and bee pollen.
Medical research has indicated that honey is instrumental in preventing wound and burn infection. Often called ânatureâs penicillin,â bee propolis, the beehive version of âduct tape,â has effective antibacterial, antiviral, antiseptic, and antifungal properties. These protective and healing properties have been conclusively demonstrated in numerous studies all over the globe.
The Back Yard Beekeepersâ Association is a Fairfield County-based club of hobbyist beekeepers. As one of the largest hobbyist beekeeping organizations in the US, members and the public are regularly educated on the importance of honeybees to agriculture and how a hobbyist can easily keep bees. Meetings cover a wide range of beekeeping topics.
Prior to the presentation, there will be a meeting at 6:30 pm, open to BYBA members and would-be members, covering the basics of re-queening and other entry-level beekeeping-related topics.
