Caregiver Training By Alzheimer’s Certified Instructors

SOUTHBURY — A comprehensive training titled, “Caring for Someone with Alzheimer’s Disease or Other Cognitive Difficulties,” will be hosted at the Lutheran Home of Southbury Saturday, May 31, from 9 am to 5 pm.

“The presentation was wonderful, comprehensive, and informative,” stated an attendee of this same training that was offered last winter. “The instructors were compassionate and very knowledgeable.”

Taught by trainers certified by the Alzheimer’s Association, this course will explain the differences between various cognitive and/or memory related disorders, like Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia, as well as how to best care for the person(s) you support with a cognitive disorder. This training will also provide attendees with a certificate in Dementia Care by the Alzheimer’s Association.

The fee to complete this eight-hour certification course is $50, which includes lunch and refreshments. Respite care may also be arranged so that you can leave your loved one with a trained caregiver while attending this seminar. A maximum of 20 people may attend.

To reserve a seat or obtain information on related serves, call Edie Hardwick at the Lutheran Home, 264-9135, extension 159.
