RIDGEFIELD — Flagpole Radio Café will conclude its sixth season with the celebrated vocalist Mary Fahl serving as the event’s headliner.

The performance, originally to be May 17 at Edmond Town Hall Theatre, will instead by Saturday, May 31, at The Ridgefield Playhouse. Showtime is 7 pm.

Tickets are $25 adults, $20 senior citizens and students and on sale at www.flagpoleproductions.org.

Flagpole Radio Café Producer Martin Blanco said May 14 that a number of “unexpected challenges have presented themselves,” which led to the postponement and relocation of the season finalé.

“While these changes are inconvenient, they have created an excellent opportunity for the show,” he said. “I have wanted to have Mary Fahl perform with us for quite some time. One of the few days she was available this year was May 31, so precisely because we have a different performance date, we are able to present this incomparable singer. Her fans are as devoted as they are numerous, but for people who are not familiar with her work, all I can say is you are in for a musical treat.”

Singer-songwriter Mary Fahl first achieved fame as lead singer and co-founder of the mid-1990s folk-rock/adult alternative group October Project. As a solo artist, her musical inspirations have expanded to include classical, medieval and world music. Her expressive, transcendent voice has been called “a voice for the gods” (Boston Globe), “a powerful, beautifully proportioned contralto” (Variety), “soul-permeating” (Portland Press Herald), and “supernatural” (best-selling author Anne Rice). Her music appeals to a wide range of musical enthusiasts, including a large, loyal fan base of Mary Fahl evangelists.

Most recently, Ms Fahl has been previewing songs while on tour from her soon-to-be-released album, Love and Gravity. The highly anticipated album is filled with flowing, folk-etched ballads produced by the legendary John Lissauer, who has collaborated with some of the greatest musicians of our time – including producing Leonard Cohen’s classic recording, “Hallelujah.”

Ms Fahl will also be releasing a live album and DVD of her September 7, 2013, performance at the Mauch Chunk Opera House in Jim Thorpe, Penn., which was taped for an upcoming PBS special. The concert included songs from Love and Gravity, favorites from her October Project days, and selections from her celebrated interpretation of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon.

In addition to the headlining performance, Flagpole Radio Café features music by Jim Allyn and The Flagpole Radio Café Orchestra (Rob Bonaccorso, Rick Brodsky, Howie Bujese, Dick Neil and Francine Wheeler), and radio-style comedy sketches by the Flagpole Shakespeare Repertory Theatre (Martin Blanco, Barbara Gaines, Kate Katcher, and David Wheeler).

Previous guests have included Livingston Taylor, Peter Yarrow, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, Jonathon Edwards, Elisabeth Von Trapp, Christine Lavin, Deborah Henson-Conant, Patty Larkin, Vaneese Thomas, Roger Ball (Average White Band), and Yale’s internationally acclaimed male choir The Whiffenpoofs.

The Ridgefield Playhouse is at 80 East Ridge.
