MV Thefts
Police report they are investigating the theft of two new four-wheel, all-terrain vehicles and one new dirt bike from a Clear View Drive residence in Sandy Hook. All stolen vehicles were 2001 models.
The thefts are believed to have occurred sometime between 2 and 9:30 am on May 17.

Drug Charges
Police said they saw a Jeep parked awkwardly on Oakview Road near Newtown High School midday on May 17. Three males entered the Jeep, police said. On investigating, police said they smelled an odor of burning marijuana coming from the vehicle. Police said a search turned up 3 grams of marijuana and a marijuana pipe.
Police said they charged the driver, Scott W. Vollmer, 18, of 5 Liberty Drive, Sandy Hook, with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said Vollmer is scheduled to appear May 31 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.
Phone Theft
A motorist reported to police that sometime during the morning of May 14 someone stole a black and gray cellular telephone from his Volkswagen Jetta which was parked in the parking lot of Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village on Queen Street. Police ask anyone with information about the sixth-degree larceny to contact them.
Equipment Missing
Police said they learned May 17 that sometime during the past three weeks someone had stolen two lawn mowers and a gas grill form a locked storage shed at Grace Christian Fellowship Church at 174 Mt Pleasant Road, Hawleyville. The mowers are Briggs & Stratton and Weedeater models. The grill is a Coleman model. Police ask anyone with information about the theft to contact them. Â
Hattertown Crash
Police said motorist John R. Gillis, 65, of Trumbull was backing up a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck northbound in the southbound lane of Hattertown Road near Hattertown Road about 2:30 pm May 14, when he struck the front end of a 1994 Saturn SL-1 driven by Dana Dzvonikova, 38, of Bridgeport. There were no injuries. Police issued Gillis a written warning for unsafe backing.
Tree Falls
Motorist Lucia Grisko, 46, of 32 Glen Road was driving a 1995 Dodge Neon northbound near 82 Main Street about noon on May 16 when a tree fell onto the road ahead of her. Grisko attempted to avoid hitting the tree, but could not and struck it, police said. Neither Grisko, nor two passengers, were injured, police said. No enforcement action was taken.

Traffic Signal
Police said motorist Kerry Perran, 35, of 160 South Main Street was driving westbound on Mile Hill Road about 1 pm on May 18 when she approached Mile Hill Roadâs intersection with South Main Street and then turned left onto South Main Street on a red traffic signal.
Police said they stopped Perran, investigated and charged her with failure to obey a traffic signal and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driverâs license.
Perran is scheduled to appear in court June 5 to answer the charges.
Walnut Tree Hill Road
Police report an auto accident about 8 am on May 18 on Walnut Tree Hill Road in Sandy Hook.
Police said motorist Stacey L. Kuban, 34, of 31 Berkshire Road was driving a 1999 Honda sedan northbound on Walnut Tree Hill Road and was followed by northbound motorist Louis A. DeFilio, 54, of 59 Scudder Road, who was driving a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Both the Honda and Jeep stopped for motorist Thomas P. Marin, 46, of Monroe, who was backing up in a 1994 Mitsubishi truck along the roadway, police said. The Honda then backed into the Jeep, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issued Kuban a written warning for unsafe backing.
Six Charges
State police report they stopped motorist Marc A. Nizzardo, 24, of Southbury for speeding and other motor vehicle violations about 12:30 am May 18 on eastbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 11.
State police said they charged Nizzardo with driving under the influence, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding, making an unsafe lane change, and failure to have automotive insurance.
State police said they held Nizzardo on a $1,000 bond for an arraignment later that morning in Danbury Superior Court.
Rollover Crash
State police said motorist Lisa A. Ward, 35, of Danbury was driving a 1995 Saturn sedan westbound on Interstate 84 between Exit 9 and Exit 8 about 6 am on May 19 when she struck an embankment along the right road shoulder, rolled over many times and came to rest on the highway median. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Ward to Danbury Hospital for treatment of head and neck injuries, state police said. Ward was reported in good condition on May 22 in the hospital.
Car Vs Truck
State police report motorist Patricia Pearlstein, 66, of New York City was driving a 2000 Mercedes-Benz eastbound in the center lane of Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, about 3 pm on May 17, when tractor-trailer truck driver Thomas Plews, 37, of Springdale, Ark., began to merge from a climbing lane to the center lane in the area where the climbing lane ends.
Pearlstein blew her horn to warn the merging trucker, but she could not avoid colliding with the truck, state police said. There were no injuries. State police warned Plews for making an unsafe lane change.
Lincoln Into Rail
State police report that motorist Delia Holger, 25, of Danbury was driving a 1994 Lincoln Continental westbound on Interstate 84 near the Exit 11 off-ramp about 5:45 am on May 16 when the autoâs left front tire blew out, causing the vehicle to strike a guardrail.
Holger was not injured. There was no enforcement action.

Dodgingtown Crash
Police report a two-car auto accident on Route 302 near Hattertown Road in Dodgingtown about 6 pm on May 21.
Police said motorist Patricia A. McSweeney, 45, of 154 Taunton Hill Road, who was driving a 2001 Nissan Altima westbound on Route 302, signaled and then stopped to make a left turn into the parking lot of Georgeâs Pizza and Restaurant when the Nissan was struck from behind by westbound motorist Dorothy W. Nuckols, 80, of Bethel, who was driving a 1996 Buick Regal.
Both drivers and a passenger in the Nissan refused medical treatment, police said. Police issued Nuckols an infraction ticket on a charge of following too closely.
Probation Charge
Police report Robert Ferraro, 40, of Danbury surrendered at Newtown Police Station on the afternoon of May 22 after learning there was a warrant for his arrest on a charge of violation of probation. The violation of probation charge stems from a 1995 charge. Police said they released Ferraro on a $1,400 bond for a June 5 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
One-Car Crash
Motorist Megan Stein, 22, of Balacynwyd., Penn, was driving a 1974 Chevrolet Camaro on Cedar Hill Road about 9:30 pm May 18, when she was unable to make a curve in the road, went off the road, crossed a lawn and struck a tree. Stein reported a head injury, police said. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps treated her at the scene, police said. Newtown Hook and Ladder firemen went to the accident. Police warned Stein for failure to stay to the right on a curve.
Church Hill Collision
A two-car crash occurred on Church Hill Road at Blue Colony Diner about 5:30 pm May 22, police said.
Motorist Kirsten Sollose, 31, of Danbury was driving a 1993 Toyota Celica westbound on Church Hill Road and made a left turn to enter the dinerâs parking lot, police said. In making the turn, the Toyota entered the path of eastbound motorist Melissa L. Alfes, 18, of Prospect, who was driving a 1997 Honda sedan, resulting in a collision, police said. There were no injuries. Police warned Sollose for failure to grant the right of way.
