TOES OF FIRE 2, STRIKERS 1: Alicia Kulp scored off an assist from Madeline Jayson and then assists on a goal by Lara Reid to lead the Toes of Fire to their second win of the season. Jessica Hallroan and Aimee Clavette sparked the defense. For the Strikers, Sarah Greenfield scored the goal while Amanda Nostrand and Brittany Pasko played well all around.

NIGHTMARE 3, RAZORS 1: Katie Powers scored a pair of goals and Kristen Gucciardo added one to lead the Nightmare to the win. Joanna Barry was solid in goal. Jacqui Kirol scored for the Razors as Thera Bibeau, Christine Beck and Maura Gissen had solid performances.
DOLPHINS 1, SHOOTING STARS 0: Jen Brewer scored the lone goal to lead the Dolphins to the win. Goaltender Sammy Carlisle and Chelsea Liker both played well. For the Shooting Stars, Monica Warek and Nicole Haylon had solid performances.
TORPEDOES 1, TIGERS 1: Becky Carrafiello scored the lone goal for the Torpedoes off an assist from Laura Doyon in a 1-1 tie with the Tigers. Bonsey Broughton was strong on defense. For the Tigers, Melissa Schreiber scored the lone goal and Tara Belmont provided the assist. Nicole Collins and Genevieve Bleidner played well on defense.
BOMBERS 6, DESTROYERS 1: Kasey Schulz scored five goals and Lindsey Laub added one to lead the Bombers to the win. Laura Rice and June Repasi put in a great defensive stand. Kendra OâConnor and Allison Lehrer played well for the Destroyers.
BOMBERS 5, TORPEDOES 3: Kasey Schulz scored four goals to lead the Bombers back from a 3-0 deficit for the win. Sydnet Russell had an assist as Sara Kelly and Katlin Marsden played well. For the Torpedoes, Emily Boncek scored twice and Gina Pisacreta scored one. Stacy Broughton anchored the defense.

HURRICANES 7, TORNADOES 3: Ben Speigel, Patrick McNulty and Timmy Lacouture scored two goals apiece to lead the Hurricanes to the win. Spencer Scott also scored while Ben Cruson and Stephen Dworkin anchored the defense. For the Tornadoes, Matt Yakush scored a pair of goals and Ryan Diluoffo scored. Adam Buccino and Matt Samuelson led the defense.
 EAGLES 3, ROADRUNNERS 1: Danny Lawrence, Ricky Gallucci and Andrew Hyland scored to lead the Eagles to the win. Cody Cullens also played well on offense and Jonathan Zigman played strong defense. For the Roadrunners, Peter Griffiths scored the only goal. R.J. Swift and Bobby Davenport supported the offensive effort while Steven Ashbolt anchored the defense.
LIGHTNING 4, PANTHERS 1: Brandon McGuinn scored a pair of goals while Ryan Hudock and Tyler Edwards added one apiece to lead the Lightning. Doug MacLeod also played well. For the Panthers, Michael Cagganello scored as John Paul Beneditti and Michael Giglio also played great offense. Evan Ritzinger and Kyle Hufziger led the defense.
GIRLS F
SCREAMING NIGHTMARES 3, EAGLES 0: Megan Rockwell scored first and Rebecca Jaroszewski added two more to propel the Screaming Nightmares past the Eagles. Margaret Cozens and Andrea Nazer also played outstanding for the Nightmares. For the Eagles, Alex Israel and Alexandra Fuentes moved the ball on offense and threatened to score numerous times. Sheena Finlayson and Emily Rowe did a great job on defense for the Eagles.
LIGHTNING 1, TIGERS 0: Paige Woodhouse scored the lone goal late in the first half to lead the Lightning to the win. Meredith LaPerch, Jennifer Gumbrecht and Lauren Faeth all played well. Sara Bernick was solid in the net. Kathleen Cummings and Gabrielle Milano powered the Tiger offense while Madine Kean, Alexandra Korchman and goaltender Michelle Davies anchored the defense.
TORNADOES 4, STRIKERS 0: Kate Bowen scored a pair of goals and Allison Modzelewski and Stephanie Sanchez scored one apiece to lead the Tornadoes to the win. Kelly Anne Brophy anchored the defense. For the Strikers, Jillian Jagoe, Nicole Gindraux, Emma Kingsley and Morgan Schick all played well.
BOYS F
ROADRUNNERS 2, TITANS 2: A pair of fourth quarter Roadrunner goals by Kyle Moore and James Truckle knotted the score in a well-played game against the Titans. Matt Datin and Eric Koegler scored for the Titans in the third to break a scoreless halftime deadlock. Dylan Berger was magnificent in goal for the Titans while Douglas Brede was a force on defense for the Roadrunners. Patrick Binio played well for the Roadrunners in a variety of positions.
FLYING ALIENS 3, SHARKS 0: Grant Braun, Marc Reyes and Matt Williams each scored a goal to lead the Flying Aliens to the win. Sam Norcross, Brendan Delohery and Stephen Forgione played well for the Sharks.
LASERS 2, FALCONS 1: Michael Shevlin and Daniel Greenwood scored to lift the Lasers past the Falcons. Colin Jacob and Tony Vacaro provided the assists. Ian Hrlpak, Eli Kichler and Caleb Benore played well on defense. For the Falcons, Ishan Tatake scored the lone goal off an assist from Eric Thornberg. Johnny Moeller and Max Masewicz were outstanding on defense.
LASERS 4, TORNADOES 4: Daniel Greenwood scored three goals and assisted on one other to lead the Lasers in a tie with the Tornadoes. Michael Shevlin also scored while Colin Jacob, Mike Shannon and JP Stanton all played well on defense. For the Tornadoes, Tony Deakin scored three goals and Ryan Dunnigan added another. Tim Willmott made some great saves in goal and Jamie Bowers provided some fine support.
FALCONS 6, TIGERSHARKS 1: Andy Lapple scored a pair of goals and Ishan Tatake, Joshua Gilbert, Mx Nacewicz and Kyle Kromberg scored one apiece to lead the Falcons to the win. For the âSharks, William Arndt scored the lone goal off an assist from Nicholas Dee. Dan OâConnor and Lewis Thompson played well.
WOLVERINES 4, ROCKETS 1: The Wolverines and Rockets ended the hard fought soccer match in a victory for the Wolverines.  Nicholas Nazer started with the first score for the Wolverines. Wolverine Daniel Hufziger followed this with two goals of his own. Kevin Carney charged up the Rockets with a nicely placed goal in the upper left corner. Joshua Zimmerman was a significant offensive threat against the Wolverines. Nazer sealed the game with the final score for the Wolverines. Ryan Cassidy played extremely well as a Rocket defenseman to frustrate further Wolverine attacks. Wolverine Mark Agugliaro played great defense keeping the hungry Rockets at bay.
BOYS U10
NIGHTMARE 2, SOUTHBURY 1: Connor Collier and Andrew Domingos scored the goals that lifted the Nightmare to the win. Conor McMananus set up the winning goal with a nice pass to Domingos with four minutes left to play. Ryan Goodridge and John Gouveia led the midfield action while Mike Kearns, Dan Quinn and Chris Marks were solid on defense in front of goaltender Jason Kostecki.
SOUTHBURY 2, NIGHTMARE 0: Southbury came back to defeat Newtown, avenging a 2-1 loss earlier in the week. This was another very close, well played game. Ethan Carrotti and Mickey Fay played well for the home team. Andrew Domingos controlled much of the action for the Nightmare, while Jason Kostecki was solid in goal.

HURRICANES 6, TORRINGTON 1: Molly Curry scored a pair of goals while Megan Hansen, Tania Domingos, Nora Lynn Shinko and Emily Weber scored one apiece to lead the Hurricanes to the win. Cassie David and Emily DeMarco sparked the defensive effort.
HURRICANES 4, MIDDLEBURY 0: Tania Domingos scor4ed a pair of goals and Nora Lynn Shimko and Emily Weber added one apiece to lead the Hurricanes. Colleen Thornberg and Molly Curry anchored the defense and Genna Scheuerell, Haley Keane and Hannah Tenenbuam had solid games.
BOYS U11
VIPERS 4, WILTON 1 (John McVicars State Cup): In the Sweet Sixteen round of the State Cup U-11 tournament, the Vipers unleashed a feverish attack against a strong Southwest team, Wilton. The Vipers found the ball in their box in the first minute of the match but from that point on Wilton struggled to match Newtownâs intensity. Justin Miller found the nylon to start the scoring when Paul Andras drew the defense wide. Andras then passed back through the center were Miller was making his run. Kevin Troy then soon found the net on a long diagonal ball place into the upper corner. Andras and Alex Bowen each scored in the second half as Newtown went up 4-0. Wilton placed a late ball into the net but the Vipers will advance and will face northwest rival Brookfield, in the semi-final round.
VIPERS 9, WOLCOTT 0: Alex Bowen netted four goals with Kevin Davies, Chris Meier, Jason Smith, Paul Andras and Kevin Troy scoring once each in a convincing win over Wolcott. The Vipers solid midfield play by Drew Taylor and Nick Kallivrousis provided the support and control that fueled the offense. Davies, Chris Schreiber and Mat DeBrantes all anchored the defense.Â
GIRLS U12
NITROS 2, BROOKFIELD 0 (State Cup): Darcy Fiscella scored a pair of goals, one off a penalty kick, to lead the Nitros to a win over Brookfield in the State Cup. Jennifer Greenwood and Sara Peters applied some great pressure on offense while Kristene Salbu, Meredith Palo and Jennifer Iassogna anchored the defense.
NITROS 3, NEW MILFORD 0: Lindsay Weber, Rose Jackman and Erica Vacaro all scored to lead the Nitros to the win. Mary Ellen Sloan provided an assist on the Jackman goal. Rachel Eastman was solid on offense and Sarah Gutbrod recorded the shutout in goal.
WEST HARTFORD 3, NITROS 0 (State Cup): Newtown ran up against a tough West Hartford squad in the third round of the State Cup. Jennifer Greenwood and Sarah Gutbrod set up numerous scoring opportunities on the offensive side of the ball, but the Nitros just couldnât find the net. The defense was led by Meredith Palo in the goal with over 15 saves, and Jennifer Iassogna and Kristene Salbu in the backfield.
NITROS 1, BERKSHIRE UNITED 1: Lindsay Weber scored the lone goal off of a perfect give-and-go pass from Erica Vacaro to capture the early lead, but the Nitros couldnât hold on and ended up in a 1-1 tie. Sara Peters and Rachel Eastman had great games controlling the midfield for most of the day, and Heather Young had an overall strong offensive game.
BOYS U12
SIMSBURY 2, RAGE 0 (State Cup): Newtown traveled to Simsbury and came up on the short end to a talented Simsbury team. Simsbury put constant pressure on in the first half but the defensive play of Aron Fay, Matt Boland and Justin Durelli help up strong. Steve Marks made several nice saves. However Simsbury was able to score off of a rebound late in the half to go into halftime up 1-0. Newtown came out blazing in the second half. The Rage dominated play for the first 10 minutes. Michael Klein, Michael Kennedy and Jack Quinn all had scoring opportunities which just missed. Simsbury then added a second goal on a penalty kick. Newtown pulled out all stops as they tried to get the equalizers. Nick Sando , Brian Conroy and Joe Rahtelli stepped up the pressure. In the last ten minutes of the game Newtown shots found the cross bar twice and the goal post once. However it was not to be Newtownâs day as they fell short.
RAGES 2, TORRINGTON 1: After a disheartening loss in the state cup, the Rage traveled to Torrington for a league game. Torrington scored first off of a corner kick. Newtown quickly came back and got the equalizer from Chris Nuelle, assisted from Ross MacLeod. The defensive line of Aron Fay, Matt Boland, Justin Durelli and Billy McCann kept the pressure off of goalie Steven Marks as Torrington only managed two more shots the rest of the game. The Rage put constant pressure on Torrington blasting 15 shots at the Torrington goalie. Nick Sando and Joe Rahtelli just missed put one in the back of the net. Finally, off of a corner kick from Michael Kennedy, Chris Nuelle deflected the ball to Michael Klein who headed it in the direction of the Torrington goal. Brian Conroy then headed the ball into the back of the net before the Torrington goalie could react, getting the game winner for Newtown. Great efforts were put in by Eric Macknight, Matt Norris, Mark Cinquegrana and Tyler Bigham for the winning Rage.
GIRLS U13
ROCKETS 3, NORWALK 0: The Rockets advanced in State Cup play with their win over Norwalk. Tori Thomas was in goal for the match. Newtown was a little nervous, with only a few early opportunities on goal, and Norwalkâs defense was pumped. Mary Anders started the scoring with her corner kick. Siobhan Cooper then scored with a beautiful header off of a cross by Anders. In the second half, Cooper scored again, dribbling past the keeper. Erin Clark, Tara Gaston, Mary Grace Ober and Caitlin Hansen powered the midfield. Emily Fields, Megan Rawson, Elyssa Samsel and Casey Frobey played great defense.
ROCKETS 4, BUNKER HILL 0: The match was fast paced and aggressive. Tori Thomas was in goal the first half, and a portion of the second. Tara Gaston shared the goal keeping, not allowing Bunker Hill to score. Tori Thomas had an awesome game both in goal and on the field. She really deserved the game ball. Casey Frobey scored the first goal with an assist by Mary Anders. Alex Konneker powered the momentum of the offense. Tara Gaston, Erin Clark, Mary Grace Ober and Caitlin Hansen energized the midfield. Megan Rawson, Elyssa Samsel and Emily Fields played great defense. In the second half, Mary Anders scored a hat trick, with one assist by Siobhan Cooper.
REF CERTIFICATION
A six-session Soccer Referee Certification class will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting May 29, at Swift Junior High School in Watertown. Class will meet from 6 to 9 pm each night.
