Fraser Woods Students Perform 'All The World's A Stage'
Fraser Woods Montessori School elementary students rehearsed on Thursday, May 7, ahead of performing an original play, written and directed by Fraser Wood’s Dean of the Middle School Wendy Musk.
Ms Musk centered All the World’s A Stage on William Shakespeare, sharing a story about his life, starting from childhood, and his ideas for his plays. Scenes from the Shakespeare’s iconic plays are incorporated into All the World’s A Stage.
“It’s a teaching play because it teaches the story of Shakespeare’s life,” said Ms Musk, as the elementary school students were readying their costumes on Thursday.
Ms Musk wrote All the World’s A Stage in 2010, and this is the second time she has had elementary students in her Shakespeare Repertory Theater program at Fraser Woods perform it. Her daughter, indie singer-songwriter Daria Musk, and her husband Richard Musk wrote the score for the play.
As Ms Musk previously told The Bee, her vision for creating The Shakespeare Repertory Theater At Fraser Woods Montessori School was to have an multi-age, all-inclusive repertory collaborative experience for the students that would be inspired by “a love of language, a playful spirit of inquiry, and a celebration of community.”
“I really love this because it puts Shakespeare’s words in their own mouths,” said Ms Musk.
Ms Musk said she has written three teaching plays, one is called the Cosmic Question, which is about ancient Greek philosophers and cosmology, and the other is Finding Lily Blue, about a little girl who finds her own voice through adventure.
After rehearsing for the play on Thursday, the Fraser Woods elementary school students went on to perform the play for parents, family, and community members during the evening of Friday, May 8.
