DUI Arrest

Police said they saw motorist Daniel Harper, 36, of New Fairfield make a restricted turn about 1:26 am May 12, near 63 South Main Street, so they stopped his vehicle to investigate.

After conducting field sobriety testing, police charged Harper with driving under the influence, making a restricted turn, and driving without automotive insurance.

Following arrest processing, police released Harper on $200 bail for a June 6 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Far View Drive

At about 1 am on May 5, someone vandalized an automobile and a boat, which were both parked in a driveway on Far View Drive in the Pootatuck Park neighborhood, police said. A car window was smashed and the boat was intentionally damaged.

The case constitutes second degree criminal mischief involving between $250 and $1,500 worth of property damage. Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of who committed the crime to contact them at 426-5841 or at 270-8888.

Multiple Charges

About 2 am May 13, police received a report from a Pine Street resident that a window had been broken and that someone had entered his house, so police went to the scene to investigate.

Police said that after arriving, they spotted Christopher Lewis, 21, of 34 Saw Mill Road leaving the premises, so they stopped him.

Police said Lewis kicked a police officer, but did not injure him. Lewis became uncooperative as police investigated the incident, they said.

Lewis was arrested on charges of second degree burglary, second degree criminal mischief, interfering with police, and failure to submit to fingerprinting. Police said they held Lewis on $20,000 bail for arraignment May 15 in Danbury Superior Court.

Larceny Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Melissa Mackey, 26, of Monroe turned herself over to police at the police station on the night of May 14 and was charged with sixth degree larceny, police report.

The charge stems from a complaint which was filed with police by Big Y supermarket security personnel in February. After posting $400 bail, police released Mackey for a May 31 court appearance.

 

Philo Curtis Vandalism

At about 1 am May 6, someone vandalized residential property on Philo Curtis Road, near Treadwell Park, police report. That spray-paint vandalism included damage to a utility box and to the roadway near the house. Police are investigating the third degree criminal mischief and ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them at 426-5841 or at 270-8888.

Volvo Collision

About 1:30 pm May 7, police report a collision involving a Volvo and an unknown vehicle.

Eastbound motorist Barbara Bernier, 39, of 83 Sugar Street, who was driving a 1999 Volvo V-70-X station wagon, was stopped at a red traffic signal behind another stopped vehicle on Church Hill Road, police said.

When the signal turned green, the Volvo moved forward and struck the rear end of the other vehicle, police said.

Police said Bernier told them that the male driver of the other vehicle told her that he did not want police to respond to the accident, after which he drove away. Police verbally warned Bernier for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

 

Sandy Hook Crash

About 5:20 pm May 10, a two-vehicle accident occurred near 33 Berkshire Road in Sandy Hook.

Police said eastbound motorist Daniel Clark, 42, of Ansonia, who was driving a 1999 Ford cargo van, was stopped for traffic in front of an eastbound 2003 Honda minivan driven by Jane Lunde Brady, 37, of Fawnwood Road.

The Honda then rolled forward, striking the rear end of the Ford, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Brady for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Police verbally warned Clark for failure to renew a driver’s license.

Explorer Vs Explorer

An accident involving two Ford Explorer sport-utility vehicles occurred about 4:20 pm May 8 near 176 Mt Pleasant Road.

Westbound motorist Robert W. Murphy, III, 37, of New Milord, who was driving a 1999 Explorer, stopped for traffic conditions, after which motorist Karen Sherman, 57, of Woodbury, who was driving a 1996 Explorer, drove into the rear end of the 1999 Explorer, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Sherman for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Pickup Trucks

Police said that motorist Becir Selmani, 31, of Southbury, who was driving a 1993 Ford F-150 pickup truck northward on South Main Street during rainy conditions at about 3:30 pm May 12, lost control of the vehicle on the wet roadway.

The Ford veered off the road, struck some curbing, and then struck a sign for Newtown Deli and Catering at 79 South Main Street, police said. That sign then struck a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck that was parked in the deli parking lot with a passenger inside, police said.

The Dodge passenger, Norma McGowan, 68, of 50 Gelding Hill Road, was shaken by the incident and then transported by ambulance volunteers to Danbury Hospital to be evaluated, police said.

Police issued Selmani an infraction ticket for traveling too fast for conditions.

Jeep Vs Toyota

Northbound motorist Michael Willcox, 28, of Danbury, who was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry on Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook Center about 12:45 pm May 12, slowed in order to make a left turn into a driveway and was then struck from behind by northbound motorist Joan Whitaker, 30, of Becaon Falls, who was driving a 2000 Jeep Wrangler, police report.

The accident occurred on slippery roads, police said. There were no injuries. Whitaker received an infraction ticket for following too closely.

Dodge Vs VW

About 10:30 am on May 13, westbound motorist Deanna Davis, 47, of 42 Orchard Hill Road, who was driving a 2002 Volkswagen convertible, stopped to make a left turn at 98 Church Hill Road, police said.

Westbound motorist James Piazza, 43, of Monroe, who was driving a 1990 Dodge van, then struck the Volkswagen from behind, police said. There were no injuries. Piazza received a written warning for following too closely.

Hawleyville Accident

About 5:45 pm May 12, motorist Bret Richter, 43, of Woodbury, who was driving a 1997 Honda sedan, stopped on northbound Hawleyville Road, near Interstate 84, police report.

Northbound motorist Noelle Ash, 36, of Watertown, who was driving a 1997 Nissan sedan, then struck the Honda from behind, police said. Police issued Ash a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

I-84 DUI

State police said they saw a vehicle with its headlamps off, which had stopped in the right lane of eastbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, at about 12:25 am May 7, after which that vehicle moved forward and exited the highway at the Exit 9 off-ramp.

State police then stopped the vehicle to investigate, after which they charged its driver, Zenka Hladka, 48, of Danbury with driving under the influence, reckless driving, and failure to illuminate headlamps. State police released the woman on $1,000 bail for a May 22 court appearance.

High Speed

State police report that at about 11:26 pm on May 4, they clocked a motorist driving 99 miles per hour in a 65-mph zone, on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 10.

The motorist then left the highway at Exit 10 and attempted to hide from them on Commerce Road, state police said. After finding the male driver, state police arrested him, charging him with reckless driving.

The driver was arrested as a “youthful offender,” meaning that he is either 16 or 17 years old. Recent state law shields the identity of youthful offenders from public disclosure. The youth was scheduled to appear in Danbury Youthful Offender Court to answer the charge.

Main Street DUI

Police report that they stopped motorist Jason Matthews, 22, of Simsbury on Main Street about 1 am May 16 to investigate.

After Matthews was given field sobriety testing, police charged him with driving under the influence, failure to obey traffic signs and markings, and driving without a license.

Police held Mathews on $250 bail for an appearance later that day in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Arrest

Police said that at about 10 pm May 15, they found motorist Brian T. Jenkins, 23, of Trumbull sitting in the driver’s seat of his vehicle, which was parked near Edmond Town Hall on Main Street.

After giving Jenkins field sobriety tests, police charged him with driving under the influence, failure to carry a vehicle registration, and interfering with police.

After he posted $400 bail, police released Jenkins for a May 31 court appearance.

Turkey Vs Dodge

About 9:50 am May 15, while she was driving a 1999 Dodge van eastward on Mile Hill Road, motorist Louise K. Howell, 51, of High Rock Road, encountered a wild turkey, which had flown out from the right side of the road, police said. The turkey then flew into the Dodge’s front windshield, according to police. Howell told police that she could not avoid colliding with the bird.

Howell was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Five MV Charges

Police report they stopped motorist Juan Lujuan, 23, of Bethel, who was driving a 1990 Plymouth Laser 54 miles per hour in a posted 25-mph zone on Swamp Road about 6:40 am May 15.

Police charged Lujuan with speeding, failure to have automotive insurance, failure to have a driver’s license, driving an unregistered vehicle, and misuse of marker plates.

After posting $500 bail, Lujuan was released and scheduled to appear that day in Danbury Superior Court.

Moving Violations

Police report that at about 7 pm May 16, they spotted motorist Eurley Hercule-Wideman, 27, of Bridgeport violate a traffic control signal at Mile Hill Road, so they stopped her to investigate.

Police charged Hercule-Wideman with failure to obey a traffic control signal, driving while under suspension, driving an unregistered vehicle, and driving without automotive insurance.

After processing, police released Hercule-Wideman on $100 bail for a May 31 court appearance.

MV Charges

Police report that on May 17, they charged motorist Alexander Pescaru, 20, of 7 Pastor’s Walk with traveling too fast and with driving while under suspension. After processing the case, police released Pescaru on a written promise to appear on May 31 in Danbury Superior Court for arraignment on the charges.

Gas Station Crash

Police report an accident involving a tractor-trailer truck and a sport-utility vehicle at Buzz’s Mobil gas station on South Main Street, near Kay Lane, about 9:22 am May 17.

In that collision, tractor-trailer truck driver Michael Crudua, 33, of Stratford was backing up his vehicle at the gas pumps when it struck the front end of a 2004 Jeep driven by Nubia Grigorio, 36, of Danbury, police report. There were no reported injuries. Police issued Crudua a written warning for unsafe backing.
