‘Lucia Di Lamermoor’ Screening

SOUTHBURY — Southbury Senior Center’s popular “Afternoon at The Opera” series will continue with a screening of Donizetti’s Lucia Di Lamermoor on Wednesday, May 24, on the big screen at Pomperaug Woods’ auditorium, 80 Heritage Road. The free program will begin at 1 pm.

Possibly Donizetti’s most popular opera, the production of Lucia Di Lamermoor to be shown is a critically acclaimed performance that was filmed live in 1992 at the famed Teatro alla Scala. The score contains many of Donizetti’s most familiar music, and is sung by Mariella Devia as Lucia and Vincenzo La Scola as her tragic lover. Ms Devia’s interpretation of the famous “mad scene” has been widely lauded by music critics.

Admission is free and light refreshments will be served.
