Newtown 9, Stratford (A) 2 â Jeff DiNicola scored four goals and had seven ground balls as Newtown out shot Stratford 28-6 at Treadwell Park. Kyle OâConnor scored two goals and won five face offs. Tim Dalton scored a goal and had an assist. Kevin OâConnell scored a goal and Cam Gehrman had an assist. Andrew Golankiewicz scooped eight ground balls. Ryan Lasher was punishing on defense. Dylan Heubner won four face offs.
Newtown 7, New Fairfield Red 4 â Kyle OâConnor scored two goals, scooped seven ground balls, and won six faceoffs to lead Newtown to a hard fought win in New Fairfield. Ben Mahony had a goal and two assists, and Andrew Golankiewicz scored two goals and scooped six ground balls. Kevin OâConnell and Jeff DiNicola each scored a goal. Lewis Thompson and Dylan Heubner had assists. Andrew Hyland made eleven saves.
Newtown 17, Pomperaug (A) 5 â Newtown out shot Pomperaug 44-16 in a dominant performance. Cam Gehrman scored four goals, Ben Mahony had a goal and four assists, and Andrew Hyland made eight saves. Lewis Thompson had two goals and two assists. Jamie Bowers had three goals, and Connor McNamara and Andrew Golankiewicz each had two goals and an assist. Jeff DiNicola had a goal, two assists, and six ground balls. Tim Dalton had a goal and an assist and Dylan Heubner scored a goal. Kyle OâConnor had an assist and eight ground balls and won two faceoffs.
Newtown 11, Brookfield Gold 4 â Ben Mahony had four goals and two assists to lead Newtown in a convincing win. Newtown out shot Brookfield 25-16 and was able to win the ground ball battle by a 49-29 margin. Brookfield jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead before Newtown rallied. Kyle OâConnor scored three goals and assisted on two others as Lewis Thompson, Jeff DiNicola, Kyle Vignone, Tim Dalton and Cam Gehrman all scored.

Senior Blue
Newtown 7, Cheshire Red 5 â Kevin Faust had three goals and an assist and Matt Grace made 15 saves to lead Newtown Senior Blue in a steady drizzle at Cheshire. Kevin Brown, Tyler Davenport, Danny Clement, and Michael Mouchantat each scored goals. Ted Levine and Brian Cantore had assists. Timo Roehrs and Colin Cinder played superbly at close defense. Newtown went ahead 3-1 early in the second quarter, but Cheshire fought hard for ground balls and evened the score at four just into the second half. Newtown regained the lead and eventually went ahead by 6-4, but Cheshire scored late to make it 6-5 and keep things interesting. With one minute remaining and Cheshire clearing the ball from its own end, Kevin Faust intercepted a defensemanâs pass and took it to the goal for the insurance Newtown needed to secure the win.
Senior White
Watertown 9, Newtown 8 â Connor Byrne (2 goals), Will Northrop (2 goals) and Ryan Korth (2 goals) led a fourth quarter comeback only to come up one goal short in a hard fought game. CJ Ryan and Colby Summerlin each added a goal. Connor Halloran, Tom Murphy and Korth combined for 12 groundballs at the midfield. On defense Dan Sclafani and Dave Kreshpan played well in front of Brandon Body (8 saves) in the cage.
Cheshire Silver 8, Newtown 6 â Brandon Body made 18 saves in goal behind solid defensive efforts by Jeremy Schaniel and Max Nacewicz. Colby Summerlin scored twice and had eight ground balls. Scott Wexler played well at midfield with five ground balls. Connor Byrne assisted on one of Will Northropâs three goals. C.J. Ryan scored once and also had an assist.
Newtown 5, Trumbull 4 (OT) â Ryan Korth scored his second goal off an assist from Colby Summerlin to win this game in overtime in Trumbull. Summerlin (goal, assist) and Korth (2 goals) also combined for 20 ground balls. Will Northrop scored twice and Mike Zaccaro added an assist. Joe Pieretti and Sean Maher played well at midfield. Max Nacewicz and Dan Sclafani playing strong defense and goalie Brandon Body (11 saves) held Trumbull to just ome goal after the first quarter.
Newtown 10, Pomperaug 0 â Newtown controlled the game from the opening face-off. CJ Ryan (2 goals, assist), Will Northrop (4 goals, assist) and Connor Byrne (2 goals, assist) led the offense. Ryan Korth (goal) and Zach LeMein each had seven ground balls at midfield. Dan Sclafani (goal) and Jeremy Schaniel anchored the defense with Brandon Body making seven saves in goal.
Newtown 9, New Fairfield Blue 3 â The attack led by Will Northrop (3 goals), Connor Byrne (2 goals, assist) and CJ Ryan (2 goals, assist) gave Newtown a 7-3 lead at halftime. After the break the defense led by Max Nacewicz, Jeremy Schaniel and Dave Kreshpan held New Fairfield scoreless for the remainder of the game. Brandon Body had a solid game with 11 saves in the cage. Colby Summerlin (goal, assist) and Tom Murphy (goal) combined for 15 ground balls.
Junior Gold
Newtown 14, New Fairfield Red 0 â The goalie play of Justin Spath and tight team defense combined to shut out New Fairfield. Brendan McNamara scored three goals and had an assist in the win as Justin Brophy scored a goal and had three assists and Colin Morris scored two goals and had two assists. Cory Fisher (2 goals, assist), James Marusi (2 goals), Michael Lord (goal, assist), Danny Hebert (goal), Trey Trudell (goal) and Ryan Brown (assist) also powered the offense.
Newtown 14, Brookfield Gold 1 â Colin Morris scored a goal and recorded seven assists to lead Newtown to the win. Brendan McNamara scored three goals as the Newtown defense held Brookfield scoreless for three and a half quarters behind the play of Justin Spath in goal (six saves) and Nick Pedalino and Brian Kruger at close defense. Trey Trudell had two goals and an assist, Justin Brophy had one goal and three assists, and Cory Fisher had two assists. Michael Lord had two goals and an assist. Ryan Brown scored two goals and Will Fletcher and Chris Tenney each scored one goal.
Junior Blue
Newtown 10, Cheshire 4 â Connor Quinn scored four goals, Patrick Capozziello added two and Keanan Bennett, Graham Derrickson, Evan Isaacs, and Thomas Bauer each notched one to lead Newtown to the win. Art Fredericks, Mike Greenwood and Eamon Rogers all played great defense.
Newtown 6, New Fairfield 3 â Connor Quinn scored four goals as Stefan Dullinger and Parker Rodbell scored one each in a win over New Fairfield. Michael Fitzsimons, Nicholas Shannon and Jack Kearney were great on attack.
New Canaan 8, Newtown 3 â Stefan Dullinger, Jake Enriquez and Mike Greenwood each scored for Blue in the loss to New Canaan. Evan Isaacs had 12 great saves in goal. Michael Cascone, Nicholas Fatse and Wyatt Depuy played a good defensive game.
GIRLS
Bantam
Newtown 3, New Milford 0 â Jaclyn Daily, Kristie VosWinkel and Madeline Fletcher scored goals to lead Newtown to the win. Meaghan Brophy, Anna Northrop and Carly Ferris had assists. The defense was led by Emily Maher and Aimee Alexander was a ground ball scooping machine. Solid goaltending by Alexa Summerlin secured the shutout.
