Set For Saturday In Sandy Hook
The Great Pootatuck Duck Race will be held on Saturday, May 26, from 10 am to 2 pm, in Sandy Hook Center as part of the three-day Sandy Hook Festival Carnival.
The duck race is sponsored by Newtown Lions Club and Treadwell Park Committee to raise money to finish financing the new playgrounds at Treadwell Park. The festivities will begin at 10 am with face painters, a Moonwalk, The Balloon Man, magic by âMr S,â music by Eric Bagger, and a number of booths sponsored by the VFW, Hospice, County Peddler, Newtown Garden Club, and Newtown Historical Society, among other Newtown groups.
The Sandy Hook Festival Carnival will open at 11 am. At 12:45 pm, the last duck race tickets will be sold.
 The individually numbered ducks will be dumped into the Pootatuck by backhoe at approximately 1 pm. The first 22 ducks that cross the finish line will win prizes. Winners will be announced at 1:45 pm. Prizes include a 50-inch Toshiba Theater View color television, a Sony PlayStation, an air hockey table, and more.
Tickets are $5 each and are available at C.H. Booth Library, Advanced Real Estate, Newtown Health & Fitness Center, Fleet Bank, My Place, Drug Center, Sandy Hook Deli, Dr Gellertâs office, and The Villa. They can also be purchased from members of Newtown Lions Club or Treadwell Park Committee, as well as Mike Porco. Tickets may be purchased the day of the event, which will be held rain or shine.
The carnival will continue the rest of the day as well as on Sunday, May 27, and Monday, May 28.
