Nature Walk Is A Success Despite The Weather!
Nature Walk Is A Success
Despite The Weather!
To the Editor:
On Sunday, May 17, the Town and Country Garden Club of Newtown sponsored a nature walk at the Orchard Hill Nature Center.
The goals of the club are to encourage Newtown residents of all ages to take advantage of the nature center and its many marked trails and to learn about wildflowers, ferns, trees, and some historical facts. This was the second time the club organized this event and we hope to make it an annual occasion.
Even though it was a rather cold and overcast day, about 70 people participated with enthusiasm. Many families with children of all ages enjoyed the outing. Annual plants, which were donated by Lexington Gardens and Hollandia Nursery, were given to all participants. Dunkinâ Donuts donated coffee that helped to keep us warm. The Newtown Lions Club, along with Newtown Parks and Rec, had scheduled âGolf-Frisbeeâ games that same day, giving some participants the opportunity to enjoy both events.
Our thanks to the Parks and Recreation Department, especially to assistant director Roseann Reggiano, and to Gordon Williams and Bob Schmidt of the Lions Club. Mr Schmidt has made all the signs identifying the plant material. I also want to thank the Garden Club Committee of Diana Johnson, Barbara OâConnor, Emi Lydem, Lina Williams, and Josie Schmidt for making this event successful.
Thanks to all participants that came despite the weather and made us all feel warm and smile!
Sincerely
Margareta Kotch
