Tons Of Cost Savings

Land On Town Hall Roof

How long does it take to move more than 35 tons of cooling capacity? Slightly more than two hours.

Wednesday morning’s sky was clear, and framed flawlessly by a backdrop of pure blue was a Trane heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning unit hanging midair, en route to the town hall’s roof. The unit will serve the Edmond Town Hall Theater specifically.

From beneath his hard hat, Board of Managers member Jim Juliano glanced upward as the crane operated by Industrial Riggers Inc of Waterbury lifted the machine from a flatbed, and hauled it upward, swinging slightly, until it settled without a sound three floors from street level. McKenney Mechanical contractors were on hand to guide the unit into place.

Mr Juliano explained that the original air handler for the theater had failed. Heating coils no longer functioned and the system leaked coolant. The entire 47,000-square foot building had to be heated or cooled to heat and cool the theater. Costs will drop significantly with the new, energy-efficient machine.

Installation costs were more than $80,000. Finances came from roughly $56,000 from the theater restoration fund, and managers appealed to the town for an additional $27,000.
