Volunteer Opportunities

DANBURY — The Volunteer Center is a the leader in strengthening the community by connecting people to volunteer service. Some of the center’s current volunteer opportunities are listed below. Additional information is also available by calling 797-1154 or visiting VolunteerDanbury.org.

The CT Film Festival will again be held in downtown Danbury from June 2 to 7. Many volunteers will be needed to assist at various film venue sites.

National Trails Day will be celebrated in Danbury at Tarrywile Park on Saturday, June 6, from 9 am to 3 pm. Volunteers are needed to help on a variety of trail projects. Lunch is provided.

Camp volunteers needed for a sleepaway camp in Warwick, N.Y., for children infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS. Camp sessions are July 25 to August 2 and August 6 to 14; volunteers can sign up for one or both.

Volunteers ages 19 and older are needed as camp counselors or general operational helpers. Experienced social workers or psychologists are also needed.

A phone caller is needed at a local library for one to two hours a week to phone library patrons who have materials ready for pickup.

Garden volunteers are needed on Tuesdays from 10 am to 1 pm in New Milford to assist dedicated people working at a historic site to implement their master gardening plan. If you are not available on Tuesdays, you can adopt a spot to work on at your convenience.

A breakfast program in Danbury that serving the homeless is in need of volunteers willing to commit one day a month to help prepare and serve breakfast Mondays to Fridays from 6:30 to 9 am. This is a year-round program currently serving about 130 people each day.

Office help is needed for a few weekday hours for a Bethel foundation providing college scholarships to minority students as well as support to middle to high schoolers in social skills development. Volunteers should be familiar with Microsoft applications.

Share your talents with seniors living at an assisted living facility in Southbury. If you have an interest to share in the arts, crafts, music, dance, exercise, or current events, we can offer you the perfect environment in which to volunteer.
