High School Golf Team Cruises Toward Postseason

Newtown High School’s boys’ golf team capped off a 15-1 season with a win over visiting Masuk of Monroe at Rock Ridge Country Club on May 21. The Nighthawks shot a 154 and Masuk had a 170 at the par 35 course. That capped a successful week for Newtown, which also defeated Brookfield on May 14, topped New Fairfield on May 19, and beat Weston on May 20.

In a visit to Brookfield’s par 35 Sunset Hill Golf Course, the Nighthawks shot a 143 and the Bobcats had a 167. Newtown was led by Colin Patrick and Brian LeBlanc, both with a 35. Josh Houle shot a 36, Graham Hubbert had a 37, and Vivek Tedla fired a 39.

At Rock Ridge, another balanced attack led Newtown to victory in the match with New Fairfield. The Nighthawks shot a 152 and the visiting Rebels fired a 202. LeBlanc and Hubbert both shot a 37, Tedla and Houle each had a 39, and Patrick a 40.

Newtown visited Weston’s Aspetuck Valley Country Club on May 20. Newtown beat Weston by six strokes, shooting a 163 to Weston’s 169 at the par 35 course. LeBlanc shot a 39, Patrick and Houle both fired a 41, Tedla shot a 42, and Hubbert had a 43.

In the win over Masuk, Hubbert shot a 36, Houle had a 37, LeBlanc a 40, and Tedla and Patrick each shot a 41.

The Nighthawks improved to 12-2 in South-West Conference action. They are slated to compete in the South-West Conference Championship match on Friday, May 30, at Danbury’s Ridgewood Country Club.
