The pool at Newtown High School, which is open on a limited schedule for public use, has closed for the season.

In place of the indoor swimming option, however, Newtown Parks & Recreation has announced that Treadwell Pool and Eichler’s Cove Beach will both open for the season on Saturday, May 23.

The pool, located within the park at 39 Philo Curtis Road, and the beach, at the end of Old Bridge Road, share the same hours all season.

Through June 21, both will be open daily from noon to 7 pm;

June 22 to August 23, both will be open weekdays from 11 am until 7 pm, and weekends from 10 am until 7 pm;

August 24 to September 4, hours are 2:30-7 pm Monday through Friday;

September 5-6, 10 am-7 pm; and

Labor Day Monday, September 7, 1-7 pm.

Note: The town pool is open each Monday and Wednesday the pool is open until 8 pm. Also as the season nears Labor Day, times for both locations may change.

Park Permit Details

Permits are required to use the Treadwell Park pool or for any vehicle entering Eichler’s Cove.

Permits are available at the Parks & Recreation office, on the lower level of Town Hall South, 3 Main Street.

A Resident Park Permit allows Newtown residents admittance to all Newtown Parks (Treadwell and Eichler’s Cove, as well as Dickinson Park on Elm Drive and Lake Lillinonah on Hanover Road).

Those who are seeking new permits, including those who are new two town, will be asked to show two proofs of residency. Acceptable forms include cable, utility or phone bill along with a vehicle registration and driver’s license. There is no charge for a resident park permit.

(Residency is defined as a person whose primary residence, either as an owner or a renter, is in Newtown. No exception to this rule. Proof of residency may be required.)

A Non-Resident Park Permit allows non-residents admittance to all Newtown parks.

Cost is $150 for the season (May 23-September 7), or $20 for a day/parking pass. Non-residents who wish to use the boat launch or Eichler’s Cove Beach will be required to purchase boat launch and/or beach pass.

Membership Permits are required for entry to Treadwell Town Park Pool and Eichler’s Cove Beach.

Resident Membership Permits, which provide access to both Treadwell Park Pool and Eichler’s Cove Beach, are $200 for a Newtown family; $75 for an individual resident; $15 for a day pass (or $50 for a six-day pass).

Resident Senior Citizens (age 60 and over) do not need to pay for Resident Membership Permits. Visit the Parks & Rec office with proof of residency and vehicle registration, and a pass will be issued.

Non-Resident Membership Permits are $400 for a family, $150 for an individual, and $30 for a day pass (or $100 for a six-day pass).

Lost Swim Permits, with a receipt or cancelled check, will be replaced for $10 per card for residents and $20 per card for non-residents. Without a receipt or cancelled check, a full charge will be issued for a new pass.

Note: Money is never collected at the pool/beach gate for daily passes. Passes must be paid for at the Parks & Rec office or online before visiting the facility.

Take your receipt to Treadwell Pool/Eichler’s Cove Beach and the gate attendant will stamp number of visits used.

Unused Daily Passes do not expire. They can be used from summer to summer.

In addition to its pool, Treadwell Park has tennis courts (currently being rebuilt, and not yet accessible), a basketball court, two playground areas, pavilions, a multi-purpose softball/baseball field, two regulation soccer fields, and restroom facilities.

Its pool is an eight-lane 25-yard pool with a diving area. There is also a wading pool for younger swimmers.

The park closes at sunset.

Eichler’s Cove offers a marine, boat launch, picnic area and the small beach.

Details about each town park is available here. For additional information about parks, permits and fees, contact Parks & Rec at 203-270-4340.
