Expanded DUI Enforcement Planned For Holiday Weekend
Police plan to intensify their enforcement of drunken driving laws during the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Extra police officers will be on duty to conduct roving patrols that will seek out intoxicated drivers, according to Sergeant Douglas Wisentaner.
The police department recently received a federal grant approval that will cover a majority of the costs for the DUI enforcement project.
The project seeks to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities in auto accidents. Police publicize their DUI enforcement project to deter motorists from driving while intoxicated.
During 2008, town police have made 22 DUI arrests, five of which involved motor vehicle accidents, Sgt Wisentaner said in a statement issued on May 18.
