Genealogist To Speak At Family History Center
Matthew Bielawa, a genealogist born in Bridgeport, will speak Saturday, June 7, at 10 am, at the Newtown Family History Center. His presentation will be âTracing Your Family History in Eastern Europe.â
Mr Bielawa holds a BA degree in Slavic and East European studies from the University of Connecticut and an MA in Slavic languages and literature from New York University. His research specialization is Galicia, specifically Eastern Galicia/Western Ukraine, which has been his topic for many lectures and genealogical articles.
He has visited and studied in Poland, the Ukraine, and Russia.
He currently serves as the vice president of the Polish Genealogical Society of Connecticut and the Northeast. He is the associate registrar at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain.
The Family History Center is within the meeting house of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 16 Saw Mill Road. The director is Fran DâEvegnee and the phone is 426-1752. The library will be open both before and after Mr Bielawaâs lecture.
