Mavis Thomas Davis Hart

Soloist, Accountant, And Loving Mother

Mavis Thomas Davis Hart of Sandy Hook died May 16 at her home after a battle with cancer. She was born November 20, 1926, in Herndon, Va., to Thomas W. and Suzie Litz Davis.

Mrs Hart grew up in Honaker, Va., graduating from Honaker High School. A graduate of Madison College in Harrisonburg, Va., her favorite avocation was singing, which she studied professionally for many years. A regular church soloist, she also sang with many amateur groups, including the Chappaqua Choral group in New York. She was the consummate small business entrepreneur, operating her own accounting and tax services business for many years, continuing right up to the end.

Mrs Hart was an active member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Newtown, including a member of the vestry, leader of the alter guild, and a singer.

She had a loving marriage to William G. Hart for 53 years until his death in 2002. She is survived by their three sons, William Jr, Troy, and Robert. She is survived by eight grandchildren, Troy Vincent, Meredith, and Zachary, children of Troy and his wife, Norma Gervasi Hart; Alexandra, Brianna, and Colleen, children of William, Jr and the late Kathleen Burns Hart; and Robert and Daniella, children of Robert and Diane Mule Hart. Mrs Hart is also survived by her two sisters, Sue Van Dyke and Sally Rauscher. She was predeceased by her sister, Margaret Surface.

Funeral services were held at Trinity Church on May 21. Interment followed at Zoar Cemetery.
