Sedensky, Jr

Attorney, Community Advocate, And

Family Man

Attorney Stephen J. Sedensky, Jr, 78, a lifelong resident of Bridgeport, beloved husband for 50 years of Jeannie Robstock Sedensky, died May 18, surrounded by his family. Born in Bridgeport on January 23, 1930, he was the son of Stephen J. Sedensky, Sr, and Margaret O’Brien Sedensky.

In addition to his wife, Mr Sedensky will be missed by his family, Attorney Stephen J. Sedensky, III, his wife, Nancy, and their children, Audrey Anne and Stephen IV of Newtown; Attorney John Sedensky, his wife, Attorney Susan, and their children, John, Mary, and Julie of Mystic; Anne Sedensky Lajuenesse, her husband, Marc, and their children, Marc and Robert of Lafayette, N.J.; Jean Sedensky Schlesinger, her husband, John, and their daughter, Allison of Portsmouth, R.I.; Kathy Sedensky Damon, her husband, John, and their children, Amanda, John, Jr, and Kitty of Portsmouth, R.I.; Mark Sedensky, his wife Attorney Amy Sedensky, and their children, Ava and Jack of Middlebury; and Christine Sedensky Fioritto, her husband, Dr Christopher Fioritto, and their children, James, Sean, and Christopher of Highland Heights, Ohio; a sister, Mary Sedensky Koehm and her husband, Andrew, of Trumbull; his brother, John Sedensky and his wife, Beverly, of Hampstead, N.H.; in-laws, Catherine Robstock Greenwood of Fairfield, and Sally and Dick Shea of Trumbull.

Mr Sedensky graduated from St Augustine’s Grammar School, Fairfield College Preparatory School, Fairfield University, and Boston College Law School. As a member of the United States Army 69th Infantry Division, he served as a radar operator and was honorably discharged with the Good Conduct Medal. Upon discharge from the army, Mr Sedensky started the practice of law with his lifelong friend, Jonas Meyer III, who predeceased him. They practiced law as Sedensky and Meyer for more than 40 years in Bridgeport.

Mr Sedensky recently celebrated 50 years as a member of the Greater Bridgeport Bar Association.

He was active in St Ann’s Church, the Notre Dame Catholic High School Booster Club, the United Cerebral Palsy Association, and local civic activities as an elected Bridgeport alderman, president of the Bridgeport Board of Education, the Knights of Columbus, for which he served as a Grand Knight, and was a member of the Democratic Town Committee. He also taught for years for the American Institute of Banking.

Though actively involved in his community and profession as a lawyer, Mr Sedensky’s main love and hobby was his family. From family time to sporting events, and his seven children’s other activities, he was always there. This continued on to his 16 grandchildren’s delight. His family was his vocation.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held May 22 at St Ann Church, Bridgeport. Interment followed in St Michael’s Cemetery, Bridgeport.
