Why Plant And Garden Organically?
Why Plant And Garden Organically?
Organic gardening will be the focus of the May meeting of The Garden Club of Newtown. Presented by club member and Master Gardener Brid Craddock, a presentation with slides will conclude with a question and answer period on Tuesday, May 27, at Newtown Meeting House.
In her talk âWhy Organic Lawn and Plant Care?,â Ms Craddock will explain why organic products are becoming increasingly popular in todayâs garden. Why as a homeowner should you consider adopting organic land-care practices? How does this new system of land care differ from gardening practices used for the last fifty years? How do products currently being used affect the health of our soil and the quality of our water? Do these ânewâ land-care practices actually work? These questions and many more will discussed in this compelling lecture.
The designer of over 100 landscapes in lower Fairfield County, Brid Craddock grew up in Ridgefield and has lived in Newtown for nine years. She has a degree in interior design and holds certificates in horticulture and landscape design. She lectures at the New York Botanical Garden on perennial garden design and works for Growing Solutions, LLC as a landscape designer.
On their historic Main Street property she and her husband Harvey Pessin have extensive perennial gardens and a greenhouse in which they grow unusual perennials, shrubs and trees that are all pesticide and herbicide free as a part of their business, Craddockâs Heirloom Gardens.
The public is invited to attend the free lecture at 1 pm on Tuesday, May 27. Newtown Meeting House is at 31 Main Street, at the flagpole.
