In Appreciation Of Teachers

Throughout Newtown schools, during the second week in May, PTA members showed their appreciation to teachers. Each PTA planned a variety of events that their members, parents, and students performed to thank teachers for their hard work and dedication to the children of Newtown.

Hawley Elementary School served teachers breakfast one day, a luncheon of homemade food another day, delivered flowers, created teacher wish-list baskets, and students wrote personal notes of appreciation.

Middle Gate School fed their teachers every day. They served breakfast one morning, a late morning brunch another, afternoon tea, cold subs for one lunch, and wrapped up the week with a barbecue on Friday. Students also participated by bringing in flowers, books for the classroom libraries, and snacks of their teachers’ favorite desserts.

Head O’ Meadow School kicked off the week with breakfast and had a luncheon prepared by Great Seasons Fine Catering. Students brought in fresh flowers for bouquets.

Sandy Hook School involved students each day. Children brought in flowers, healthy snacks, classroom supplies, wrote notes and poems, and donated books to the classrooms. A staff luncheon was prepared and parents covered classrooms so all teachers could eat together.

At Reed Intermediate School, classes collected donations to purchase pavers for the new playground. Coach’s Deli catered a luncheon for the staff. A masseuse was scheduled the following week to give teachers massages.

Newtown Middle School had the PTA, principals, and students involved. The Backdoor Café provided refreshments for the staff meeting that week, as well as bagels, quiches, and fruit on Friday. Each morning, students were selected to read poems and thank you notes during announcements. On Friday morning, teachers were greeted with valet service. Students arrived at school early to open doors and help teachers carry in their things.

At the high school, the PTSA provided breakfast for the teachers. Parents and students provided homemade baked goods.
