June 2 Extravaganza At Art Center: Artists’ Walk, Cabaret & Silent Auction

BRIDGEPORT — Joseph Celli, the director of Black Rock Art Center, says summer will finally arrive on June 2 with a “June 2nd Extravaganza” featuring the First Friday Art Walk, London Cabaret and a Giant Silent Auction. All the events will take place at the art center, at 2838 Fairfield Avenue in the historic Black Rock section of Bridgeport.

First Friday Art Walk will take place from 5 to 8:30 pm on Fairfield Avenue, from Brewster Street to Gilman Avenue. This will be the second year of this free event that features 45 artists working in the media of pottery, painting, jewelry, photography, weaving, and other fine art areas.

The artists, coming from throughout the East Coast, will exhibit their work and have special items for sale in all price ranges.  All of the proceeds go directly to the artists.

In addition, performances including blues, folk music and works from emerging local acoustic artists will also be featured along Fairfield Avenue.

Restaurant specials will be available at a number of the local Black Rock eateries including Taco Loco, Black Rock Castle and others.

“We had over 2,000 people here last month and with good weather we think an even larger audience will be attending this week,” said Mr Celli.

Marsha Lanzo From London to Broadway features an evening of songs, stories, and humor, in which Ms Lanzo details her life as a child star, while adding a personal sense of retrospect as a veteran of London theater performer – spanning 15 years in West End shows, including a Royal Command Performance for Queen Elizabeth II, and even a personal appearance at Buckingham Palace itself.

From London to Broadway, written by the performer, chronicles the shows Ms Lanzo has appeared in, including songs that she has sung during her career.  Ms Lanzo’s career started at the age of nine with the show Annie in London’s West End. She was the youngest person ever to win the title of Miss Dance Great Britain in England at the age of 16, and she has been honored with three Best Supporting Actress nominations by San Francisco Bay Critics Awards for her performances in Babes In Arms and The Good Companions, and was nominated for her performances as The Mistress in Evita.

From London To Broadway has won rave reviews on Martha’s Vineyard and Narragansett, R.I. Tickets for the June 2 performance are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.

A giant silent auction at the Art Center will feature over 80 items ranging from gift certificates for leading regional restaurants to membership in fitness clubs. Proceeds from the auction will help support Black Rock Art Center.
