Summer Programs At Piano Workshop
Summer Programs At Piano Workshop
Julie Cook, the director of Julieâs Piano Workshop in Sandy Hook, has announced the studioâs summer music programs.
âMusic Improv Campâ is a five-day morning class open to students ages 9 through 12 who play piano or another instrument. It is also open to those who do not currently play an instrument but who would like to experiment with creating impromptu music in an ensemble.
Participants will learn how to provide ostinato accompaniment, how to solo, how to be a responsive ensemble player with sharp listening skills, and techniques to stimulate creativity and self-expression.
There will be a variety of ethnic percussion instruments available as well as a piano and keyboard; students may also bring their own instruments. Parents whose children are registered for the Improv Camp are invited to attend a free weekly Improv Gathering at the studio one evening per week.
âJazz, Rock & Blues with Gavin Newton-Tanzerâ is a six-day course to be given over two weeks in August. It is open to piano students ages 9 through 12; there will also be an introductory class for beginning players.
Students will play Latin, rock and blues progressions and understand the theory behind what they are playing. There will be ample opportunities to play in groups and also to accompany and solo.
An adult jazz class in a similar format is currently forming.
âElenaâs Piano Playdatesâ provide an opportunity for piano students to learn more about music theory, composers, and history by engaging in fun multisensory group activities one afternoon per week. Seven- to 10-year-olds will develop a better appreciation of the music they are learning at their piano lessons.
An introductory session for 5- and 6-year-olds will also be offered.
Private piano lessons are available throughout the summer for children and adults.
Anyone wishing more information on these programs can call the workshop at 426-7924.
