Newtown High School's softball team advanced to the South-West Conference Tournament semifinals with a 6-5 walk-off win over Bunnell of Stratford in the Sunday, May 25, quarterfinals.

Gillian Boughan drove in the decisive run, scoring Gabby Ansman who had doubled, to lift the No. 3 Nighthawks past No. 6 Bunnell. Masuk is the No. 2 seed and Brookfield is the top seed. All three teams had the same record and finished in a tie for first in the standings; a draw decided seedings.

Newtown will face Masuk in the semis, at Stratford's DeLuca Field, on Tuesday, May 27; first pitch is at 7 pm.

On the baseball diamond, No 7 Newtown fell 6-3 at No. 2 Bethel on May 25. Kieran Garrity hit a home run in the loss. The Hawk sluggers will wait for the start of state tournament action.
