*The Joy of Art with Joy Hoffman will be Wednesday, June 5, 12 and 19, and every Wednesday throughout the summer, at Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street.
Kindergarten students are invited to one-hour sessions, which will begin each week at 11 am and 1 pm. Attend one or all.
Children will enjoy a chance to express their artistic talents freely while being guided through friendship bead making bracelets and necklaces, paper plate bugs and other fun and lively arts and crafts projects.
*Not a workshop, but a special performance: The Tennessee Children’s Dance Ensemble will be at Newtown High School for a presentation in the auditorium on Thursday, June 13, at 7 pm.
The Tennessee Children’s Dance Ensemble continues to prove a child’s capacity to match a professional level of artistry. It is the ensemble’s mission to provide opportunities for children to excel in dance and to teach children that only through hard work, dedication and a heightened sense of discipline is this excellence possible. The results have been 27 years of children ages 8-17 performing modern dance masterpieces on stage and creating their own masterpieces in life beyond TCDE.
After the performance in Newtown, the company will travel to a community on the New Jersey shore devastated by Hurricane Sandy that contines to rebuild three of its schools. TCDE will take with them some token gifts from Newtown to share with their children.
There is a suggested $5 donation for this event, which will benefit HealingNewtown.
