Flagpole Photographers is a local non-profit group that enables members to share their images and expertise, to learn and grow in their photography, and to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow photographers. Members are from diverse backgrounds, with photographic skills ranging from beginning novices to professional photographers.

On Thursday, May 29, the club will host a “Program Night,” featuring an open discussion on photography tips and tricks on shooting portraits. All levels of camera enthusiasts are encouraged to attend.

The evening will begin with a discussion on the basics of portrait photography including lighting, location, perspective, framing, and props. There will also be technical conversations for the intermediate as well as advance photographers.

This will be a hands-on workshop with models available, so guests should bring their camera and questions.

Advanced-level photographers will be in attendance to answer questions and assist with camera settings.

The workshop starts at 7:30 pm, and will be at Cyrenius H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street in Newtown.

On Thursday, June 12, at 7:30 pm, the club will host a general meeting and photo competition. June’s assigned subject is “Inside.”

Photographers are challenged to showcase their creativity for interpreting the meaning of “Inside.” There will also be competitions in Black & White and Open Color.

The public is welcome to attend the program and hear critiques of the images, but competitions are open to club members.

Light refreshments will be served. The competition will also be held at C.H. Booth Library.

Meanwhile, Flagpole Photographers Camera Club is presenting its 2014 Annual Exhibition until June 12. The showcase displays over 100 photographs by members of the club, also on view in C.H. Booth Library’s lower meeting room.
