Police Arrest Youth In Laundromat Robbery

By Andrew Gorosko

Following an investigation, police have arrested a 17-year-old boy on a charge of second-degree robbery in connection with an April 1 incident at PJ’s Laundromat at 110 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center, in which the youth allegedly stole a bucket filled with quarters and currency from a laundromat attendant.

After conducting an investigation, police applied for and received an arrest warrant from Danbury Superior Court.

Police found the boy and served that warrant against him at about 2:30 pm Thursday, May 21, charging the youth with the Class C felony.

Following processing, police released the boy into the custody of his mother after a $5,000 bail bond was posted. The youth is scheduled for arraignment on the charge on June 5 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court.

Because the person charged is under age 18, his identity is shielded from disclosure under the provisions of state law. Court proceedings involving youthful offenders are conducted in closed session and the dispositions of such cases are undisclosed.

There were no injuries in the April 1 incident.

Police have said that the robber entered the laundromat near closing time, at about 8:43 pm, and stole the money from an attendant there.

The robber then traveled over a footbridge above the Pootatuck River and entered an auto parked in small parking lot alongside Washington Avenue. The vehicle then headed southward on that street, according to police.

Police have not disclosed how much money was stolen from the laundromat.

The investigation into the laundromat robbery is ongoing and more arrests may be made in the case, according to police.
