Sedan Hits Pole

Motorist Michelle Rahtelli, 21, of 16 Timber Mill Road was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry sedan northward on South Main Street, near its intersection with Greenbriar Lane at about 12:52 am on May 17, when the auto went out of control, struck some guardcabling along the right road shoulder and then struck a utility pole, police said.

Rahtelli was not injured, police said. Rahtelli received a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions, according to police.

Truck vs Bridge

At about 8:50 am on May 19, trucker Ricardo Amaral, 37, of Danbury, who was driving a 2003 International 4000 truck on westbound Interstate 84, about 1,000 feet west of Exit 11, lost control of the vehicle, veered to the right and then struck a bridge wall and some guardcabling, state police said.

Amaral was not injured. State police issued him an infraction for failure to drive in the established lane.

Highway Accident

In heavy stop-and-go traffic on eastbound Interstate 84, about 500 feet west of Exit 11 at about 3:35 pm on May 20, motorist Jordan Varno, 19, of Bethel who was driving a 2013 Toyota Corolla, struck the rear end of a 2013 Kia Optima driven by Kevan Boisvert, 32, of Cheshire, state police said.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Four-Vehicle Chain Reaction

State police report a four-vehicle chain-reaction accident on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, about 5 pm on May 20.

In that incident as vehicles were slowing for traffic, motorist Craig Comfry, 46, of Enfield, who was driving a 2011 Ford Econoline van, struck the rear end of a 2011 Mazda 3 auto driven by Frederick Spina, 58, of Woodbury, state police said.

That impact pushed the Mazda into the rear end of 2014 Ford Fusion driven by William Allen, 41, of Plantsville, state police said.

That impact then pushed the Ford Fusion into the rear end of a 2008 Toyota Camry driven by Ebenezer Eyiah, 55, of Southbury, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police issued Comfry an infraction for following too closely.

Driving Under Suspension

Police said that while on patrol at about 2:45 pm on May 21, they spotted motorist Ian Doerr, 24, of 49 Spring Trail driving a vehicle in the Philo Curtis Road area.

Police said that Doerr then left that area on foot, but was later located near 15 Spring Trail. After they investigated, police charged Doerr with driving under suspension.

Police processed the case and then released Doerr on a written promise to appear in court on June 4.

House Burglary

Police report they are investigating a house burglary that happened on Currituck Road in the area near its intersection with Tunnel Road.

Police received a report on the crime about 4 pm on May 22. Items were stolen in the incident, police said.

Failure To Respond, Surrender On Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her, Brittany Emslie, 19, of Branford went to the police station about 9:30 am on May 22 and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction, police report.

Police said that Emslie had been issued an infraction on charges of possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia last December. Such infractions bear fines which are payable by mail. People receiving such infractions also have the option of challenging them in court.

Emslie, however, did not respond to the infraction, after which police received an arrest warrant for her, resulting in a misdemeanor summons charge.

After processing, Emslie paid $286 in bail and was released for a June 5 court appearance, police said.

Two Vehicle Accident At NHS

Police report a two-vehicle accident at Newtown High School at 12 Berkshire Road about 2:13 pm on May 22.

In that incident, a 2005 Honda Pilot SUV driven by Bridget Sclafani, 48, of 27 New Lebbon Road was backing up and then made contact with a 2010 Honda CRV SUV driven by Aurea Buck, 52, of 48 Horseshoe Ridge Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Deer vs Vehicle

At about 4:40 pm on May 22, motorist Maria Pereira, 53, of New Milford was driving a 2003 Audi A-4 sedan westward on Currituck Road, near Kenan Road, when a deer ran out onto the road, resulting in a collision, police report.

Pereira was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Interstate Crash

State police report that motorist Samantha Beauleau-Almeida, 20, of New Milford, who was driving a 2002 Ford Ranger pickup truck, struck the rear end of a 2003 Saturn L-series auto driven by Mitchell McMillen, 52, of New Milford on eastbound Interstate 84 near Exit 9 at about 6 pm on May 22. There were no injuries.

State police said that Beauleau-Almeida left the scene of the accident and was found at the Mobil gas station on Church Hill Road near Exit 10 of Interstate 84.

State police charged her with evading responsibility, following too closely, and failure to maintain the travel lane. She was released on $750 bail for a court appearance, state police said.

Volvo vs Toyota

State police said motorist Lassaad Khelif, 46, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., who was driving a 2000 Volvo S-80 eastward on Interstate 84, about 1,000 feet west of Exit 10 at about 8:50 am on May 23, struck the rear end of a 2013 Toyota Camry driven by Susan Melvin, 73, of Danbury.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Khelif to Danbury Hospital for treatment of possible injuries, state police said. Khelif received an infraction for following too closely, state police said.

DUI Arrest

State police said that while on patrol about 8 pm on May 23, they stopped motorist Robert Egeland, 50, of Naugatuck at Exit 10 of westbound Interstate 84 to investigate.

State police said they charged Egeland with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane. After he posted $500 bail, Egeland was released for a June 9 court appearance.

DUI Incident

Police report that they responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident about 1:20 am on May 24 on Schoolhouse Hill Road near its intersection with the Boulevard. There were no injuries.

Police said that after investigating, they charged motorist Kevin Walsh, 22, of 7 Farm Field Ridge Road with driving under the influence.

Walsh was released on $100 bail for a June 10 arraignment ion Danbury Superior Court, police said.

Seven Charges

While on patrol about 10:30 am on May 24, police said they stopped motorist Ronald Chaco, 24, of Danbury on Church Hill Road, near Glen Road, for not having functioning brake lamps on the vehicle he was driving.

Police said that Chaco initially provided them with a false name and false date of birth when he was asked to identify himself.

After investigating, police charged Chaco with interfering with police, driving with a suspended license, misuse of marker plates, theft of marker plates, failure to have automotive insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle, and failure to have brake lamps.

After arrest processing, police released Chaco on $1,000 bail for a June 4 court appearance.

Failure To Respond To Infraction

While on patrol about 10 pm on May 24 on Baldwin Road, police stopped motorist Jeanne Abric, 55, of 87 Berkshire Road to investigate, after which they charged her with failure to respond to an infraction.

Police said that Abric had not responded to an infraction that she had received in May 2013, so they had received a warrant against her which they then used on May 24.

After posting $422 bail, Abric was released for a June 10 court appearance.

Botsford Crash

At about 6 pm on May 26, motorist Paula King, 51, of 23 Surrey Trail was driving a 2007 Toyota FJ-Cruiser SUV westward on Meadow Brook Road when the vehicle drifted to the right and then struck a tree, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the accident. King refused medical transport, police said.

King received a written warning for failure to maintain the travel lane, police said.

Driving Under The Influence

Police report that at about 11:10 pm on May 26, they stopped motorist William Demenna, 30, of 27 Baldwin Road near 31 West Street to investigate.

Police said they then charged Demenna with driving under the influence. Demenna was scheduled to appear in court to answer the charge.

Sandy Hook Collision

At about 7:30 am on May 27, motorist John Delrossi, 16, of 68 Tomahawk Trail, who was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry sedan, was attempting to make a left turn from westbound Pearl Street onto southbound Washington Avenue, as motorist Michael Wright, 45, of 96-B Church Hill Road was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry sedan northward on Washington Avenue, according to police.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Delrossi an infraction for a stop sign violation.

Coupe vs SUV In Rush Hour

A two-vehicle collision occurred about 4:20 pm on May 30 near 70 South Main Street, north of South Main Street’s northern intersection with Elm Drive. The incident caused travel delays during the evening rush.

While traveling in heavy stop-and-go traffic on northbound South Main Street, motorist Sheri Legeret, 42, of 2 Alder Lane, who was driving a 2014 Honda CRV SUV, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by northbound motorist Virginia Wilde, 22, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2001 Honda Civic coupe, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the incident to medically evaluate Legeret, police said. Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters responded to the accident. Police said they issued Wilde an infraction for following too closely.
