Attention young poets, jugglers, singers, mimes, magicians, comedians, rappers, dancers, actors, horn players, et al: the seventh monthly Saturday Night Open Mic For Newtown Youth will take place Saturday, June 7, from 7:30 to 9:15 pm. The events are held in The Great Room at Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street.

Performers should be in grades 5-12. Microphones, keyboard, guitar amp and more will be available.

Doors will be open by 7 pm if any performers wish to arrive early and wait to sign up; sign-ups will begin at 7:15.

There is space for about twenty performers so the time limit per spot is about five minutes. Sign-up is first come, first serve.

Youth under grade six must have a parent or guardian present.

“A welcoming atmosphere and an enthusiastic all-ages audience makes this a great night every time,” said Jim Allyn, the Newtown resident who has been organizing the monthly events.

Although the age of performers is limited, all family members and residents of all ages are welcome to attend.

Suggested donation is $1. Adults attending are invited to bring a drink or snack to share.

For additional information call 203-9659 or send to jimallyn24@aol.com.

While the monthly Saturday Night Open Mic is for performers grades 5-12, it also includes room for one sing-along by younger audience members who may wish to take the stage as a group. Shown here, from left, are Leah Crebbin, Chelsea Fowler, Annie Fowler and Casey Dunn singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” during last month’s open mic event.
